Respected Barack and Michelle Obama, from the day I heard your speeches, I was very impressed with the way you explicit your thoughts. Your innovation for America. I know its the right way you are doing for the sake of the country, but it hurts sometimes for people like us who are keeping lots of hopes coming to a country like US. I have been here for almost 8 now, but felt very bad after I heard that my H1 transfer was denied for no good reason. I may probably return back to my home country INDIA in another month. I recently had a baby and I was distressed to hear that my H1 was denied even I work for Fortune 100 company and the company needs me for their services.
I know that you are doing all this for the sake of the country, but I always praise you to the fullest of my heart for all the work you are doing for this country
I wish I could get a green card, but look doesnt seem to favour even with Masters degree in US being the topper in my University
I always been an active participant during the events/campaigns held at Carson,CA
I always wish you the best hoping for sure I will return some day to see you again

The first lady of America holds more power in her hand than you know. Yes we all know how women can manipulate their men, but this has nothing to do with that. Michelle has managed to captivate the hearts of the world now that they have all given her a chance. She has gone from “unpatriotic” following the distorted sound bytes of her “For the first time.. I’m proud of my country” speech, to become one of the most beloved Americans ever. It all came from her, back down to the unprecedented hugging of the Queen. Oh Michelle, my belle!

Ain't she SWEET? We all know the tune...sing along! (see her walkin' down the (now heavily guarded) street/ the kind of girl I'd like to meet/ Ain't she sweet!)

I never before really cared about "First Laidies" until Michelle burst upon the scene. All of the recent ones, with the exception of Hillary, seemed to be either NUTS (witness Barbara!) or hoplessly shallow (you'd have to be to put up with "43"...a number to which he couldn't count; which has been scientifically proven; and we ALL know how much they held science close to their hearts!)

I, of course, cannot bring any of the First Ladies from Jackie-O back into the fray, as THEY all had class and even inluence!

Did everyone call their local Representatives yet? If not, get on the stick! We all worked hard to get Barack elected; votin' for him isn't enough in today's world. We are MORE than obligated to do more than sit on that vote!

We must, as vocally as possible, SUPPORT THE VISION for which we voted! And if that means using some cell phone minutes, so be it!

Barack is speaking right now "across the pond", as they say! Strange to see an "American Style Town Hall Meeting" taking place in a foreign country.

I was totally surprise to find this little gem. He took a gigapan imager that consists of 220 shots all integrated into one enormous photograph. In his own words:

“My final photo is made up of 220 Canon G10 images and the file is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels. It took more than six and a half hours for the Gigapan software to put together all of the images on my Macbook Pro and the completed TIF file is almost 2 gigabytes.”

You can use the controls to zoom and pan around the photo.

You can also double click to zoom in and double click again to get even closer and see the scene in amazing detail and clarity.

And you can see close-up the expressions of your favorite — and least favorite — politicians and dignitaries as Obama makes his inaugural address.

After viewing this for over 30 minutes, I found the picture will take you into the crowd that is so vivid you will get to feeling of the largeness of the audience, expressions on people’s faces, and an instant in time. I’m sure you’ll never think of a photograph as “just another shot again”. The high resolution was astounding to me. The shot is also for sale framed, with and without the logo and in full color! Today is the official first full day of Barack Obama becoming our nations president. (Sweet!) Right now I am hoping that he will fix are country, not just hoping, praying. There is one thing he is doing that is worrying me, and that is the 800 billion dollars he is about to spend on energy and such. But one thing is for sure, thank god Cheney is gone. Within the next few weeks I trust that he will make some good decicions for our country. No, to talk about the Inauguration. First off Aretha Franklin..... well I know old peoples voices are not exactly great but that was kinda... bad. I mean she was fabulous but that was a while ago, sorry Aretha. I was so excited when Biden got sworn in. Too cool. And the Air and Simple Gifts with Yo Yo Ma and the crew was sooooo beautiful. After it went over noon though it was kinda funny. Has that ever happened before? I didn't know that if you don't take oath before noon your still president, pretty cool. Next Obama tripped up on his repittition of the oath which I couldn't help but laugh at. His speech was so moving, it was so well done. After all that was over it was time for the Inaugural Balls. Michelle Obama's dress was breathtaking! She is so lovly and such a good role model. Until the next thing interesting enough to talk about or when I'mn bored, blog you next time.

What a Day!

January 20, 2009- A day that will forever live in my heart as the day the United States of America decided to reclaim its rightful place as the leader of the free world. When I looked at my television and saw the mass of people waiting eagerly to see Barack Hussein Obama be sworn in as the 44th President- I could not help but think how blessedly ironic that moment was.

There they were at the Capitol- a place that was built by enslaved Africans watching a decendent of those same Africans swear before God that he would faithfully fulfill the duties of the office of the president of the United States.

There they were watching the man look out over the reflecting pool;the same pool that inspired a mass of people to come out in 1963 to hear the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr give his eloquent and timeless "I Have a Dream" speech.

There they were looking at people like Rep. John Lewis- a man who literally was beaten within an inch of his life just because he had the audacity to want Black people to have the same civil rights as White people.

It is a new day people! We have been give all the encouragement and inpiration we need. We cannot stop, we cannot rest. Our task is too great, our target too large. We must continue what was started with generations before us that decided that enough was enough. We must be the change that we seek!

The Color of Authority

American Politics has managed to reach a new low in World History. We have been shamed as a Nation, and diminished as a people before the World under the reckless guidance and administration of the 109th and 110th Congress, and the Bush Administration. We have endured through two questionable elections that went unchallenged which led us into a historic financial World Crisis, and an awakening.

Our Trusted News Media abandoned us, spinning confusion and deception which divided us and pitted neighbor against neighbor, State against State. They eliminated the purity of the White which has ever-bound the Red and the Blue together as one, raising walls between Republican and Democrat neighbors that must now be torn down.

The world couldn’t see that we Americans lived under a shadow of fear and neglect through the Media’s caustic webs. The world couldn’t know that we were under a Domestic Assault by corporate interests, until the world’s populations discovered we were all victims of a government sanctioned unbridled greed.

But the corporate interests that disrupted the world’s Global Economy got too reckless. Wall Street executives and Bankers rushed too quickly to cash in on the people’s suffering, and boldly entered into a Contract with an angry Nation. Then they promised “transparency” and reneged on the agreement only months into the transaction.

When our Federal Government failed us, our State and local Government Officials and Boards of Directors failed to protect us too. They ignored the pleas of the people and the Experts that didn’t agree with their own personal Experts. They demonstrated a consistency of putting their own personal prosperity above their own people’s welfare, our fearless leaders fearlessly hiding behind the Privilege of their elected offices.

Out of the gloom came Barack Obama, who had the audacity to speak of Hope in the face of the growing despair. And the prominent Politicians and the News personalities laughed at him. But the whispers of hope would not be drowned out by the laughter.

We saw the hope in a mother’s eyes, in our First Lady Michelle Obama, the image of strength, intelligence and grace. We witnessed the resurrection of a dream in the eyes of our people, and saw the light of hope cast back the shadow of fear hanging over us.

We were told if we dared to believe in Change, Barack could take us all the way to the White House, and hope flourished into new-found friendships and a new awareness of unity, determination and civic duty. Against all the odds, in the face of this enormous crisis, we won the election and took our Country back. Now President Barack Obama is in Washington, and with him is the good will of the American People.

We have our President and Team Obama but, there is so much work to be done. The last eight years have been traumatic, and cries for Justice against the transgressions by the Rogue Bush Administration and their pals are growing. We need not worry, there is nowhere for them to go.

We told President Obama that we would trust him, and at the first difficult decision he was faced with, in regards to the Bush investigations, he has already been criticized. We all feel the anger, we all feel betrayed but, we have to give the Obama Administration the ability to make those decisions if they are to have a chance to succeed.

We need to stay focused on the Change, on restoring the damage our Country has suffered. Team Obama cannot stand alone against our corrupted Congress. We must use the Call to Service to work swiftly and challenge any obstacles who try to keep us from moving forward.

We need to continue organizing and get to those who have yet to get involved. Our President needs us to stand by him, and behind those Public Servants who are standing with us. All across this Country there are many Public Servants who have been blocked by partisanship who need our help too. We have more friends in Government than it appears.

We can’t lose sight that there are many Americans still suffering at the hands of corporate interests. There are homeless families that need us, and our precious World War II generation has been tragically abandoned. Thousands are barely hanging on to their homes while the Mortgage companies are refusing to help them.

We are involved in two wars, and our Soldiers and their Commanders have been disastrously neglected. Our wounded Soldiers continue to be neglected as well by an antiquated system. It’s long past time to Show them that their Country is behind them.

We Americans have been through times like this before. These are indeed bad times but, we have endured through the misery of the Status Quo until it shattered itself and exposed the big Conspiracy to be nothing more than a self-perceived Ruling Class, and their utter contempt for their own people. Well, they don’t need to love us. They just need to serve us.

We have also seen from the World’s reaction to the election of President Obama, that it wasn’t America that the world hated. Our global friends and neighbors remember who we are and want Americans to succeed. And from the world we have learned that what makes our Country great isn’t uniquely an American thing. It is a shared human quest that lives among all people. A quest that believes there must be a place in the world where hope and dreams and prosperity can be the birthright of all people, and that one day, that birthright can belong to them and exist within their Home Countries.

We now find ourselves in a new age of technologies that is initiating a New World Culture, in which the world’s populations have a shared interaction and a voice. There is a free exchange of ideas and culture that is redefining the established Media bias of distrust between Nations. With the new technologies we are organizing, and we are also re-establishing Journalism in a new tradition, one that can be trusted by the people, a New Age interactive Journalism that can be easily sourced and verified.

The Global Markets have also opened up opportunities that have yet to be explored in developing new Industries and re-establishing the old. The middle executives have been discarded by the top executives into the melting pot. New networks of entrepreneurs from around the world are free to spawn a new era of growth, while the old Icons of Business blunder their way to ruin. And the corporations who take care of their workers will be favored above the rest by consumers.

The Chronicles of History are no longer the providence of conquering powers or Media historians. In this age, the Chronicles of History are the providence of technology, owned by none and belonging to all. It is continually being recorded by the witnesses of our time by the most unprecedented intercommunication in human history. The story of our time is being recorded every minute of every day, amidst the multitudes of posts on Web Forums and Feature sites, in text messages and in personal Blogs. History is being recorded by you.

The Representatives of Government may write their hundreds of books to shape their own Legacies. And the world will respond with their hundreds of millions of unique perspectives for the future Historians to study in retrospect.

A little over four hundred years ago in a hot cotton field an already drained tired old woman dropped a seed of blood from her dried hard hands into the soiled dirt of mother Earth. No tears, no fears. The blood like the old woman refused to cry and die in the blistering sun. Instead it soaked and steadily rolled deep into its mother never to stop never to wait for death was not a fate.

Somewhere on the same plain under another owners name was another slave, feeling the burn from the crack of the whip being ripped from his back. And if that isn’t enough pain the word nigger replacing his African name by a man of another complexion. No shock here that a tear or two full of hopes and dreams rolled off his hot salty face and drill themselves into the calm sands. As he prays that his children somewhere in this unknown land don’t feel the same affliction.

Not calm for long is this unfertile dirt as the tears and the red seed that moved constantly finally meet in the underneath. Never a fight between mother and father, as they began to composite with one another deep down in their mother. After some time in the dirt’s clutches a root of Will broke through. It seems that through all the infinite numbers of tears. Tears of hope, and fight from above began to find ways to seep through the significantly thick pavement being poured on top layer after layer.

Through all the turmoil above the rapes, beatings, lynching, mutilations, bombings, and assassinations, was a loud thought that echoed deep into the grains causing the root to feed rapidly. In time the root replied to this thought but not by sound. Not by the speeches not by the violence. The root was never judgmental of the two. For they never out weighed each other in their time of struggle. The root heard the calling from the two. The root heard the songs being sung while marching, and felt the pressure from the hoses, and the teeth of the protected German Shepherds break through the skin of the young men and women. The root felt the tremble of the body that fell in the Audubon auditorium for bringing meaning to the phrase “by any means necessary”.

As the root began to feed on these acts and ideals it grew a stem that started to push itself through the cracks of the controversial pavement. The bottom from which the root came softened from the resurrection of the tears of hopes and dreams and the Will carried by the seed.

Yet after overcoming all those obstacles the seed still toils to get through the gravel. The sharp edges of laughter pointed at a young black man who has the audacity to think he can become a senator let alone the idiocy to dream of being a presidential nominee.

The summer of two thousand and eight is just about over and the stem inched its way above the blistering pavement. Now the sun that harassed the seed so long ago finds itself supporting the seeds beliefs. The senators’ peers no longer laugh, but cast a ballot under his name on their behalf.

A little over four hundred years ago a fearless seed was planted and hopes and dreams nourished it. The dreams became a belief and the hopes were raised to a promise. On a cold night in November two thousand and eight something unspoken had taken place. The stem grew a leaf when it was expected to freeze. That young senator now a little older stands center stage on a cold night in Chicago. That little stem flexed its roots and broadened its stance.

All these roots, all the martyrs, and all this pain endured by so many others, hint a grin to one another of the sacrifice put forth along the way. Now today is a breakthrough that is our honor to speak his name by stating first “the forty-fourth president of the United States of America”. A country shouted the word “change!” and now the world speaks his new name. President Barack Hussein Obama, the man who has challenged a planet of many to think about the single leaf growing on a very young tree in need of company.

I also am kind of in love with Sasha & Malia, but I hope Michelle keeps the press out of their lives as much as possible...it will be better for them not to be hounded...

I've been here in Nevada for almost a week from California. I'm here in Nevada to help re-enforce change as we did in California. Would you believe that I'm disabled? However, as in life, we have to fight like our life depends on it and not get too comfortable.

We are turning Nevada blue with much determination. I got a chance to see Senator Obama and Michelle on separate occasions while here working. I was sad to hear of Obama's Grandmother on the day Michelle was here and our blessings and heart goes out to them. They are both amazing and I know they will be great leaders for the United States of America. We all know that it has been such a challenge for people with disabilities dealing with our meds and healthcare. Let's all help bring this win home and make this the United States we all love, especially those with disablilites!!!

Dear Toot Ends One Journey as a Nation Hopes

On a more somber note, I would like to publicly offer my sincerest, heartfelt sympathy on learning of the passing of his dear grandmother, Mrs. Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham, affectionately known as "Toot".

God knows that I had been routing for her to endure to see the outcome of Barack's remarkable Presidential journey but only God knows the hour or the day that we will be called home.

To Barack, the fond memories will stay with you forever and with God's help and time your heart will feel less heavy.

The Excitement Builds...

It has been almost two months since my grandmother started her blog at 85andchange.com. Working on this project with her has been so exciting. She never ceases to amaze me with her energy and tenacity. She is a most amazing woman, and it means so much to me to have had this experience. I wish every grandchild could have a bonding experience like this with their grandparents. We have so much to learn from our elders.

Over the last several weeks have traveled to see Joe Bide, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton. Each speaker has been an inspiration and motivational. But today the excitement hits an all time high. Today we get to go downtown and see Barack, Michelle, and Bruce Springsteen! What an appropriate and fitting end of the campaign. We are both so excited, we can't contain ourselves! The only excitement that can compare to it will come on Tuesday evening when it becomes clear that the nation has chosen Barack Obama to be the next president of the United States!

I was reading this morning, and thought about you. So I would like to share this with you and your wife.

With 7 days left I pray you will continue to get your strength from the Lord. With my life He gives me His Strength. “He went up on a mountainside by Him self to pray. When evening came, He was there alone.” Matthew 14:23.

Christ Jesus in His humanity felt the need of complete solitude-to be entirely by Himself, alone with Himself. Each of us knows how draining constant interchange with others can be and how it exhausts our energy. As part of human kind, Jesus knew this and felt the need to be by Himself in order to regain His strength. I understand a little about your mom, and these are a few reasons that I stay close to God. I was a single a mom for 15 years of my sons’, Keith & Kevin, life before I remarried. I quit a good job in Buffalo N.Y., so I could better our life by going to Talladega College, when I was 32 years old. At that time 1974, only the youth were on campus, so I was a big joke. I had to get on welfare and food-stamps. It made my sons hide when I had to use food-stamps instead of money, I was happy for the help. A big $80.00 a month plus food-stamps and our apt. was 200.00 a month plus utilities. HUD would not let me qualify for a $50.00 apt. because I was not getting enough money from welfare. It’s been hard for all of us who have been single moms. Thank God for grandparents and friends.

I am from Huntington W.VA, so I cast my vote by way of California City, Ca.
For these reasons:

My husband Marvin, a builder, completed two homes and lost both of them in December 2007. Built two fourplex’s, which we live in one of them, and they are trying to take these. My husband has worked so hard to make our life better, and because of Bush, we just keep hitting bottom.

God has blessed us, because a few years ago a doctor did foot surgery, I was in pain for four years he kept me coming back almost every week, sending me to all of his colleague, and it came to the point they said it was all in my head. When I was able to change insurance, the new Doctor let me know that what was wrong with my foot had never been removed. So I took my old doctor to court and he admitted that he knew he done surgery in the wrong place. When asked why he did not correct his mistake, he just shrugged his shoulders and said he didn’t know. This happen in Glendale Ca. courts; I lost the case, out of work for four years with no income from me, and was in to much pain to take care of my daughter Joy, that we adopted. They said I lost case because too much time had passed. I found an attorney the next day when I read my report that when I requested an out side doctor, he reported that the doctor had not remove the matter, and the surgery needed to be done over. This was three months later, but the old doctor did not share this with me.

After four years of pain I was able to return to my teaching position, in six weeks. I am looking forward to your insurance plan, because we have not had insurance in years. My son Joshua, just yesterday had to pay out $200.00 for x-rays, he does not have the money because he in college finishing up his Masters this spring but because he can’t afford insurance he had to pay.

I know you can help us in our community, because of the type of service you have given through out the years.

My husband and I went to a community hospital when we were living in Pomona Ca. Because his mother was in the hospital, it was a day after Christmas, and the hospital had call to say they were getting ready to take his mother back to the nursing home, and we had plans to meet her there.

The hospital and the nursing home were only a few blocks away from our home, but in 15 min they called back, to say it was now a code blue. we could not understand this because it was an in and out procedure that was to take place, she was not even suppose to spend the night, and when we asked why she was spending the night, to start with, they said that they wanted to keep an eye on her. My husband showed concern that she was out of it, and she didn’t know we were there. After getting the code blue call, we and the children rush to the hospital only to sit in the waiting room for hours, because they were working on her. It was getting late so we made arrangements with my son Kevin to take care of the younger children.

We returned to the same door that we had been using so we could find our way back to her room. It was raining cats and dogs that Friday night, so as we enter the door where the security guard asked us to sign in at front desk, so I did. I could hear the voices in the background, so I ran to see what was going on, because my husband was in the area. I don’t know why the guard was yelling about us signing in I told him that the desk clerk said I could sign in for both of us, but he was still yelling as we started to his mother’s room.

He started poking his finger in my husband back as we were walking up the halls. My husband kept walking with his mind on his dying mother. We had walked a long ways to the elevators with this guard still poking my husband. I finally turned to him and said you are acting like a punk, please stop poking him. At that moment, he grabbed me by my neck in a chock-hold I could not breathe, I was trying to free my self, but he had my feet off the ground.

He carried me, in a choke-hold, a long ways back before he threw me to the ground, placed me in handcuffs and he and another man sat on me to the point I was suffocating. Bystanders were trying to tell them to stop, but they had dogs which kept them back. The Pomona Police came, I was glad to see them until they jerked me by my handcuffs and tried to make me stand. When they saw that I couldn’t they dropped me to the ground. I was bleeding, I was bruised, I could not talk and I was hurting so bad that all I could do was whisper.

One man picked up my purse and the contents, which was a Bible and a cell phone. When the man brought me my purse while I laid on the floor, he said, “Joy, is that you?” at first I did not recognize him, then he reminded me he was the social worker in the hospital and I that I had followed the ambulance to the medical center, a young male child had been hit by a car, and the family had not arrived and I did not want him to die alone. I stayed to pray and to be with the family, and that’s how he remembered me. He said he knew I had not done anything wrong.

The hospital would not treat us, they would not get any help for us, and they were putting us out of the hospital. After about 3 hours the head of the security came and took me for treatment, also told me how sorry he was. The lady in X-ray slammed me on the cold metal table. I just did not know people could be so cruel.

After we were able to be wheeled to his mother’s room, I asked my husband why he did not help me. He replied that every time he would break lose, two mussel men would grab him and twist his arms tearing at his rotator cuffs. We were all night trying to make a report about the matter. They kept saying there was nobody in charge.

His mother never regained conscious. She died the following day; we still don’t know what happened to her. Sometimes we feel that we were beaten to distract us, so we wouldn’t ask questions concerning his mother.

We both were out of work seems like forever. We went for treatment everyday. We lost that case, because they said we were trying to steal a baby.

I know if that had been your community Obama you would had helped us, because you know how the big boys mess over the little people who don’t know what to do.

I have been a teacher for years I was hurt at work. So we had to refinance our home, in Riverside.Ca. my husband, still unable to work because of the beating. Our home was a true gift from God, it was 5.000 sft. a view of 360 of the world, on top of a mountain, we called it Mt. Zion; we had 3 ac of land. It was haven forever for anyone. My son Joshua who cares for young people had a New Years party for over 150 people so they could have a good time without drugs or alcohol and no sex. We had many people on Mt. Zion. Our plan was a camp with horses, teaching young people personal development , job training, addressing their spiritual and social needs ,helping unwed mothers, abuse women and children, working with the homeless and dysfunctional events that happen to good families in the community. That included gang and suicide prevention, parent and marriage enrichment programs .Well these are some of the achievement we were doing, until the refinance company stole our home, and gave us 30 days to move. Our things are everywhere. Some are in storage places and they are trying to auction that in a few days.

So you see must find work because of our crisis. We will no longer be victim because GOD is Victorious. We speak for all the people who can’t be heard, we will see a change in you.

WE the people are sending you 10.00 a widow’s mite, because we believe in God and you Obama for such a time as this. This is not a poor little me story , I don’t know how God has taken care of us all these years. I know we have all ways worked for HIM.

Take a good look at me, God, my God; I want to look life in the eye, so no enemy can get the best of me or laugh when I fall on my face. I’ve thrown my self headlong into your arms—-I am celebrating your rescue. I’m singing at the top of my lungs, I am so full of answered prayers. Psalms 13:3-6.

Take a long, hard look. See how great He is - infinite greater than anything you could ever imagine or figure out. Job 36:26.

Now Obama is a Marxist, socialist because supposedly he tells Joe the fake plumber he wants to spread the wealth around.

The Income Tax Act was established and enacted to support the Civil War and was based on the basic principles of graduated or progressive taxation and withholding income tax at source.

Ronald Reagan implemented the Earned Income Tax Credit to distribute the wealth amongst the so-called "working poor" as part of his trickle down economics. Was Ronald Reagan also a Marxist or a socialist?

Remind everyone that The Income Tax Act was enacted in 1862 and saw the establishment of the office of Commissioner of Internal Revenue so Barack Obama is playing by the rules of engagement, he's not doing anything that's socialist. If it was not socialism then, it sure ain't socialism now so don't let John McCain get away with this latest "slogan".

McCain-Bush Republican administration just gave $750B to Wall Street private corporations. The State taking a financial stake in private enterprise - what do you call that, McCain? Whose wealth is Bush spreading around and to whom?

Thoughts on the Campaign and Vocational Education

First of all, congratulations to Senators Obama and Biden on the above-board campaign they are running. Some negative comments are unavoidable in the face of attack, but the Obama campaign has kept those comments to a mimimum, using them to clarify points and refute the McCain/McCain/Palin lies.

I really enjoyed Michelle's appearances on Larry King and The Daily Show. Michelle stayed focused on the message and on the issues, dismissing recent attacks by the McCain camp as "part of politics." Her calm, thoughtful, sensible replies formed a sharp contrast to the rantings of the McCain ladies.

I do have a suggestion. One of the keynotes of the campaign has been support for higher education. I wholeheartedly agree. However, it might be a good idea to reach out to more people by specifying "college and other higher education options, such as vocational training." College is not for everyone, and there are many other programs that prepare participants for solid careers. Althought I'm sure that Senator Obama includes these programs in his plan, I think that they need to be mentioned specifically.

In tonight's debate raised alot of questions in my mind. Obama claimed a 95% tax decrease for the public, or a 5% tax increse for big businesses. He also talked about Making education his #1 priority. How can you expect to stimulate a business into creating jobs in america by taxing them, or anyone who now was willing to open a business? I would move my business overseas if I was the owner, for the simple reason because it is cheaper. 95% of the people who lose thier jobs, will see a tax decrease (because they won't earn anything to pay taxes with). America will be turned into another "sweat shop third world country" with this logic. Funding education is important, but at what cost? Most Americans who have earned degrees can not use them! The job market is that bad in where a degree means nothing. We, in America, will have a nice degree to hang up on our walls but not have a job for that degree. I was originally voting for Obama, but after I saw he has no real concept of the real world, I can not. Obama is living a pipe dream, in which he believes helping us now will help us in the future. Helping us now will indeed do just that (at least for the next 4 years). Then Obama stated that Bush (who I dislike as our president) said forget about Osama Bin Laden. As I recall, Bill Clinton was given Osama Bin Laden on a platter by another government (Before the 9/11 attacks). In which Bill said that America doesn't want him. Even a high ranking offical said that he spent alot of security at his house because of "The worst type of terrorist, that hates America, Osama Bin Laden". Which happened to be Gore (again, before the 9/11 attacks). Obama will take none of the blame for his own party, but will instead blame people who aren't popular to gain a popular vote. I'm sorry BO, but tonight you lost my vote, unless you decide to let Michelle run in your place and change all your policies (or at least think them through).

AP Poll Finds Racial Undertone In Presidential Election

In attempting to determine why a nation in crises after nearly 8 years of Bush the minor’s stewardship of a morally, intellectually and politically bankrupt GOP and its aging nominee John McCain, who changes his views as often as there are storms in the gulf-of Mexico, still running neck-and-neck with the rival Democratic nominee Barack Obama, the poll with the help of Stanford University using very sophisticated analysis came up with a whopper! There is STILL racism in the USA!

Now I must say I am flabbergasted. Racism in the USA? Why, in the land of Lincoln and Roosevelt? The very sophisticated poll combining computer graphics with questions probing latently held views discovered that 40% of all whites and a lot of Democratic voters still held very negative and stereotypical views about blacks. They believed that blacks are their own worst enemies. Were violent, lazy and did not try harder. Only 59% of white Democrats, according to the poll, said they would vote for Barack Obama, and as much as 17% of Hillary Clinton’s supporters are willing to vote against their own interests and pull the clinger for McCain.

Now I am sure that most ordinary people did not require the sophisticated analytical tools of Stanford University to have come to the easy conclusion that there is still racism in the USA. Why else would candidates and parties spend a small fortune in attacking people for their race as the GOP did by attempting to ally Obama and former Fannie Mae Chairman Frank Raines. A more apt reference could have been Jim Johnson who as former Chairman of Fannie Mae was on Obama’s vice presidential selection team until his resignation. So why Raines whom Obama barely knew instead of Johnson? Raines is black and Johnson? You can guess!

More seriously, until recently the MSM had virtually given McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin a pass at being extremely economical with the truth. In fact some might say for telling bare faced lies! But then again a lying old man of their kin is better than any truth telling N…. any day.

But all the analytical tooling cannot hide a huge shock to the American psyche; that of a once mighty nation now in serious decline. America is growing old but doing so rather ungracefully! The mighty US$ is in perpetual decline, the famed US armed services are bogged down in a titanic struggle borne out by the insipient fantasies of men such as John McCain and carried out on the ideological idiosyncratic whim as those of his current running mate Sarah Palin; who is fast being coached to become the standard bearer of the now disgraced neo-conservatives.

The national economy is on life-support with the Federal Reserve (a private bank) urging the nation’s tax payers to bail out a bunch of hoodlums who have grown so greedy but so vast that anything else will lead to the death of the once mighty US economy - the engine room of the global economy! And that dose of urgent chemotherapy? One trillion US Dollars. That is $1,000,000,000,000.

Some Americans may be racist and racism may well be rife in the Democratic Party; after all some very prominent Democrats made their fortunes on the back of slavery and fought abolition tooth and nail. Remember the racist South was once solid Democratic territory. The 1956 Southern Manifesto, a Confederacy throwback some ninety-one years after they had lost the American Civil War, was signed by nineteen United States Senators. Seventy-seven members of the House of Representatives opposed to racial integration in public places also signed it. Of the ninety-six members of Congress who signed the Southern Manifesto, two were Virginia Republican Congressmen [three Southern Republican Congressmen refused to sign]. The rest were all Democrats.

*Senator Richard Russell, Democrat of Georgia, co-authored the 1956 Southern Manifesto strongly defended white supremacy and voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

*Senator Albert Gore Sr., Democrat of Tennessee, voted against 1964 Civil Rights Act

*Senator Sam Ervin, Democrat of North Carolina (the Senator who chaired the Watergate Investigating Committee), signed the 1956 Sothern Manifesto and voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act

*Senator James O. Eastland, Democrat of Mississippi was a staunch segregationist and avowed racist who signed the 1956 Southern Manifesto and voted against 1964 Civil Rights Act and still served under Jimmy Carter as the Chairmen of the Senate Judiciary Committee and number three to assume the presidency. He served in the Senate till 1978; only some thirty years ago.

But all that notwithstanding however, what I am absolutely convinced about is this; American is not the same and will never be again unless it takes a very serious look at itself. The nation needs to look and reflect upon itself. For the missed opportunities, exploitation and greed under the guise of the free-market. No market is ever free. There is always a price to pay! The previous gravy train that led so many to only care about their self-interests’ and damned the rest, has left the station and never to return. There will be repercussions when Main Street washes away the blinkers and discover, as they will, that they have been had! Lied to! Manipulated!

Only one man is equipped with the candor, freshness, decency, honesty and integrity to deal with this highly explosive domestic tinder-box delicately. Only one man is predisposed to handle the associated international repercussions and pushback that the US will face when other more serenely managed economies suffer, stutter or even fail as a direct consequence of the free wheeler-dealings under the ubiquitous guise of the free market.

For this is a nation in addition to the $1 trillion to rescue high stakes gamblers who may well end-up keeping their ill gotten winnings at the expense of Main Street who may lose even their homes, is indebted to itself and the rest of the world (gross national debt plus debt held by public stock) by an eye-popping $9 trillion. That is $9,000,000,000,000.
Put another way, which is $30,000 per every woman, man & child in America. But you tell that to the lazy, violent blacks not trying hard enough.
The truth of the matter is that America may end up needing Barack Obama more than it knows and certainly more than he needs America. It may not seem a patriotic thing to say but most nations in this World, would welcome him with open arms. There are not that many American leaders in the current crop you can say that about.

Fortunately, there are more Americans across the political spectrum who when the issues demand, it would seem, are prepared to put aside their superficial differences in color. I believe this is what drives Barack Obama in his pursuit of the Presidency. Well, the AP poll found that most whites say that blacks could improve their lot if they tried harder. Well Barack is hard at it trying. Hopefully these same folks will be prepared to help him help America.

So now you know why Barack & Joe have a fight on their hands. Why they together have to fight harder. They know things are far worst than they can talk frankly about without causing fear or panic. Oh, and for now Joe Biden is an honorary black. Barack and Joe will close the deal but they need your help and support. They need you to appeal to the good sense of a common purpose of ordinary folks so that Barack and Joe prevail. We need Barack to be the next POTUS. I am absolutely convinced that he will be. Or do you need a poll to tell you that?

I have been a mother all of my adult life. A single working mother. I put off dating, took menial jobs far beneath my qualifications and baked my share of ginger bread cookies for PTA Night, all so that three incredible children could have a better life. I chose their lives over mine. I don't have to tell you that it wasn't easy. Unfortunately, my story, our story, is not unique. We slept in cars, bought groceries with food stamps and prayed for a better day. When that wasn't enough, I put myself through school at Emory University and took a part-time job as a staff writer at the Atlanta Journal Constitution. That was over a decade ago.

ANYONE who reads this, if you could please pass this along and hopefully we can get the attention of HQ.

I am of the belief, with only 55 days left in the race, that Barack needs to bring back the Intensity and Inspiration that attracted most of us to him in the first place. You see on cable, Palin and McCain have huge crowds of thousands where ever they go, they are doing what Obama used to do on a daily basis. Inspriring American and creating a momentum and wave of spirit all over the country.

If you see YouTube, watch some of the rallies and gatherings Obama was doing in the Primaries. LETS GET BACK TO THE BASICS THAT BROUGHT US TO WHERE WE ARE TODAY. Tommorrow and every single day until the election, we must bring back "YES WE CAN". "HOPE" "CHANGE".

What the McCain campaign cannot compete with is bringing back our Inspiration of thousands chanting YES WE CAN. The McCain attacks are exactly what Barack said we would face. The same old Republican scare tactics, multiple ads running every day, playing same old Politics games.

What we all loved about Obama is that his campaign is built on us, the people, and changing the ways of the dirty politics. The way he needs to come back is to bring back the INSPIRATION OF CHANGE and fight against this typical Republican attack machine that we all have been warned about. Just stop for a second and think, as the McCain machine keeps rolling over us, he is sitting in his "Straight Talk Express" just laughing and smiling as he "makes fun" of Obama, smears him, jumps on every word he says. When, who he is really making fun of is US, as this campaign is built by the people.

So, how Obama says "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", as the American People that have brought us to where we are today, lets all get out and fight for our leader who is the true canidate of change. John McCain will not be laughing and smiling any longer if Obama starts massive rallies every day and bringing back the inspiration of Hope, Change and YES WE CAN. Day by Day the excitement will continue to build and build and we will be able to drown out the excitement of McCain-Palin. Going and talking in small venues, libraries or companies, is not going to bring back the momentum.

The HQ Team should right now be coordinating and planning huge rallies every day and Barack should go back to his Inspiring Messages he stated that brought all of us onto his team in the 1st place.

As I sit and listen through the news, conventions etc. I find it hard to stomach FOX NEWS' cable station. I have never in my life heard such angry, hateful people deal with a candidate the way they deal with Barack Obama, his family and campaign.

I am overwhelmed by the fact that there are so many issues that his family have gone through that has not even been spoken of, yet this act of control and poise has not been portrayed to the viewers at all.

Barack is right because he doesn't fly off the handle. He doesn't play childish games of "copy cat" or "top this". He does what he does, he does it in excellence and it shows all throughout this campaign. Barack is forward thinker. He has come through several hard issues and still kept his pride and dignity no matter what the attack and they were ugly.

There is so much to say but I'd like to hear from you. What's on your mind?

Michelle Holds a Women for Obama Rally in Albuquerque

Michelle was in Albuquerque yesterday and held a rally in the Student Union at the University of New Mexico. The event highlighted the importance of women in this election.

Michelle stressed that because this is the general election, there are voter registration deadlines in every state, and here in New Mexico, the deadline is October 7th. If you don't register to vote, your voice won't be heard in this presidential election.

So it's important for all women to get the word out and ask all of your friends and family to register to vote. You can also help us register new voters by joining a 30/30 squad.

McCain could not bring himself to make the logical choice for VP since Mitt Romney had proven himself to be a good candidate for the top of the ticket. In fact, at 55 percent, he received more votes than everyone else combined. "Nobody" was second, with just 15 percent, and was followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (8 percent), Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (6 percent), former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (6 percent), and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (3 percent). The former governor of Massachusetts ran far ahead of the pack. (source: National Journal) So, McCain picked Gov. Palin, of course, since she is not the logical choice for top of the ticket.

I can say with assurance that we are a happy and filled lot ! The faith of a mustard seed is all that it took. That and all of us being in love with each other and this cause and working together for the good of our communities and our country.

There was never doubt that this thing, this phenomenom would happen, but for it to happen at our feet. Now that is a wonder. God has us right here believing that the field that we have plowed will produce a crop of change and grace. We will harvest wisdom, and blessings. The globe is ripe and bursting, seeing victory and a sweet peace for our world. Ain't it just gonna be delicious ?

I can't stop crying. Did you hear our Brother's acceptance speech ? In reality Barack's speech on race was a precursor. Did you hear him speaking directly to you ? I'm so proud, right here and right now.

What about our Sister ? Our Sister who will be the First Lady ! How beautiful and eloquent she is. I'm not looking through rose colored glasses. I just choose to believe. All things are possible, Only if you believe !

Barack Obama’s mission of “bringing us all together” included three major events over the past two weeks, heading into his acceptance speech Friday night at Mile High Stadium.

First, on August 16, Obama participated in the first exchange between the two Presidential candidates at Saddleback Church in Orange County. Participating in what was, in essence, the first debate of the ‘08 election at Rick Warren’s megachurch was a major move on Obama’s part to embrace and legitimize the imposition of Christian fundamentalism into all realms of society. Then, on Saturday, August 24, Obama announced that Joe Biden, would be his running mate. A long-time ruling class insider, Biden has not just been complicit with, but a key player in the whole development of the so-called “War on Terror,” a war for empire that has brought a million deaths to Iraq, and bloodshed and suffering across the Middle East. And Michelle Obama’s August 26 speech to the Democratic National Convention was a major statement—an acclamation of oppressive, patriarchal traditional family values.

Each of these events provoked new rounds of outrage from many of Obama’s supporters. But the basic question for those people is: Are they betrayals of Obama’s principles? Or examples of what Obama’s mission is all about?

OK. I have now heard Michelle Obama’s, Hillary Clinton’s and several other convincing speeches at the Democratic National Convention including Edward Kennedy’s and the exciting speech by Brian Schweitzer,Governor of Montana. I am now calling for not only the next 8 years but for the following 8 years after that of a continuing Obama White House. (8 Barack and 8 Michelle) Michelle’s articulation of all that is possible for America and the World and Hillary’s unleashed endorsement of Barack led me to that proposition.

Interruption (4 days) Only now am I getting back to this blog post after attending the other two days of the Convention and traveling back to New York. I am more convinced of the legitimization of my call for 16 years of an Obama White House. Go Barack and Michelle. I love you both. You are truly phenomenal leaders.

OBAMA/BIDEN OUR BEST CHANCE AT RENEWAL AN OPEN LETTER TO POTENTIAL VOTERS:

I received and email last week where I was invited to submit my resume and references to work in red states by the Obama campaign. I am considering if I have the 5 weeks to do this. But here is a concern and my thoughts which I think all Democrats need to hear especially the most passive and confidant ones. I hope you will consider posting it on your blog as I was saddened to hear in the post Denver conversations how many Democrats think this is now sewn up. That attitude lost us many elections and put us here right now. In the last 24 hours I have heard 8 Democrats across the country sit down and say well we won that. As if to say it's over, we are on top!

I don't care what you think about the war, abortion, my gay friends and brothers, your wallet, your right to carry guns or our crime in the streets. How can anyone honestly look at the end of the Clinton years and all the good work he did and now look now at the approaching end of the Bush years and actually think in any possible way we are better off?

Forget party lines, forget all the negative advertising, forget color and military records. Look at these two men side by side, Obama and McCain, both good men but dramatically different politics and belief structures, then ask yourself who you want at the helm for the next four years.

If McCain is elected our Constitution will be worth less than the paper it's inked on. We will be bankrupt morally and financially and our global reputation will be so tarnished that no party will be able to repair it. We are nearly there now. But you can bet Iraq will be richer than they are now! And we will be less secure at home and abroad.

When it comes time to vote, historically Republicans decide in the pews on Sunday, many Democrats decide much the same way in this country. But historically Republicans also go out and vote and Democrats more typically than not sit at home wondering why they lost. if you do not think this is true go look at the last election. If you want it changed, get out and change it. If you want more of the same, then sleep in on election day and let McCain sweep this thing. I know in this forum I am speaking to the engaged and the enraged. But, we live in a deep political pocket here in California, I live half in San Francisco and half in Los Angeles and because I am a Director/Producer/Creative Director, I am often in Texas, Kansas, Missouri, New York and North Carolina...I scout and shoot in Wyoming, Montana and Utah as well as Nevada. And folks, you can all be really proud of our speeches and be energized but only one moment counts in this election and that is when you and those YOU are able to convince to vote, go out and actually pull the trigger for Obama/Biden on election day. And at that moment, the speeches, the hope and the knot in all our stomachs will not matter if they are not elected.

In the last election they spent millions on the "Rock the Vote" registration campaign...for all the newly registered 'young' and 'first-time' voters they registered, especially Democrats, on election day they determined that despite spending millions that the actual youth vote in this country barely increased from the 4 years prior. Youth could care less, they don't think it matters or that they can really influence true change. They do not care. We need to get them to care, we need to help them understand that it does matter and that it matters for reasons important to them.

So if Democrats want to count on our newly energized youth vote....I say, "Good luck with that". Unless....unless we can convince them to act, to show up on election day and make the right decision.

We each count as one, and only one in November. Personally I am voting for Obama/Biden, I am sure you are as well. I am sad to call myself an American when I leave this country right now. Frankly, I am scared to even leave the country right now because Bush and this administration has created such hatred around the world towards America, and you know what? We deserve much of it!

So forget party, forget color and forget all the noise you are being fed, and vote for real change because we cannot survive four more years of this crap! But most importantly, get off the couch because we cannot as a party or as believers make noise now and think that effort will sustain us on election day. As Democrats we have made that mistake too many times.

I'm in. Tell me what else to do. Post and Blog on your Facebook, MySpace, Linked-in pages. Put up window and yard signs, speak out in public and at dinner. Speak to those who do not believe. And speak with facts, passion and truth. Not anger!!!! Barack gave the speech of his life in Denver, he stood up, articulated what he intends to do and went after McCain for the right reasons in the right way. Echo that...embrace that and each of you build an army of 1000. In that way and in that way alone we will win this.

My best to all of you and my hope that I will meet you during this historic battle. I have not felt like this since I first heard Bill Clinton speak, I knew then that we had a politician who was able to make real change in Washington. This is the start of the next 8 and hopefully a much longer Democratic run in America!

But please don't stop the fight and don't think this is over until we have voted!

Between the months of February through August, amidst the media Barack bashings, my resolve gave way to doubts and second thoughts. But, after listening to Jesse Jackson Jr., Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Tammy Duckworth, President Clinton, Beau Biden and Joe Biden, my faith has been restored. I believe Barack and Biden are the ticket back to a better life.

Through the tears, the pride and the joy, these people have proven to me that my vote, our vote should be for the best man for the job, Barack Obama. So, I feel no more resentment for Barack's not picking Hillary as VP, I can see why he would choose Biden. As Hillary mentioned many months before, regardless of the outcome, she will be okay. I have a strong sense that Barack is such a great man that he recognizes the Clintons as the valuable resources they can be, I hope that he will consider what worked so well during the Clinton administration and try replicate it or even to exceed it.

I've been following the Democratic National Convention on television and all I can say is I wish I could be there!!!

I was absolutely floored with Michelle Obama's brilliant, poignant, humble and exquisitely delivered speech. Well Done Mrs. Obama!!! Oh and Senator Kennedy's speech and Senator Clinton's speech - all were absolutely breathtaking. I missed Craig's and Senator Obama's sister's speeches, and I missed Rev. Jessie Jackson's son's speech. I'll catch up however. Everyone that I did hear spoke with great hope, anticipation, change and grace in their presentations and I am so proud to be in the Obama campaign family. So proud that I decided to support Senator Obama in the longrun!!! (I was a Hillary Clinton supporter before hearing Barack Obama speak in February 2008.)

They are currently replaying Senator Biden's speech as I type, and I'll catch the replay of President Clinton's speech. I'm just SO EXCITED. They're having such a sensational great time there.

I'll be catching Barack Obama's acceptance speech either at home on television or at the designated place to watch his speech downtown tomorrow night. I'm now running a small business and it takes a lot of my time, but I'm trying to make my life better financially so there are priorities in my life now, but I haven't forgotten my volunteer duties for the Campaign and I haven't forgotten to donate when I have extra money.

Barack's e-mail about Michelle

Yesterday, Obama supporters received an email from Barack Obama. It was a nice and simple email praising Michelle on her speech at the convention. Barack says in it that its a must see and that he believes she beat him at giving a good speech at the convention. I certainly realize there are two reasons that this email was sent. The first being that I am sure he is proud of her and loves her very much. The second is because Michelle needs all the positive attention she can get to fight the negative propaganda that has revolved around her.

I personally think that Michelle is an intelligent, strong and loving woman. I even share her appreciation for the Dick Van Dyke show. However, I think that this email was a potentially huge blunder. The reason is that Barack never mentions Ted Kennedy. Granted, Ted Kennedy was the one that got all the spotlight from the media and viewers. In addition, many may have missed Michelle because she was on at a later time. Still, Ted Kennedy did Barack a huge favor by making sure he attended no matter what. He gave a great speech and Barack owes him a lot for doing so. I do think it was an oversight of Barack's campaign but I am surprised the right-wing media did not jump all over it. Barack praising his wife and not even acknowledging Teddy could be seen as "egotistical" by the right-wing media. The campaign has done a wonderful job but its these simple slip-ups that amaze me.

I was in complete awe of Michelle Obama's speech - her poise, her grace, her joy of motherhood and of being Obama's wife. I was moved and overjoyed by her overall demeanor and I loved the way the girls reacted when they were on stage and saw their dad. In addition, she looked absolutely fabulous! Her hair was gorgeous! My cousin didn't care for the broach, but I thought she looked classy.

My cousin and I, along with my 14 year old son and 13 year old daughter, watched Hillary give her speech and we were quite pleased. We just wished that she had not ran such a dirty and devisive campaign.

We watched the speeches on C-Span so that we wouldn't be bothered with commercials and news commentators. However, after the convention on Tuesday, we turned on CNN and an African-American Clinton supporter was interviewed. She was in tears because Clinton was no longer the nominee. She said she would still vote for Clinton at the convention, but in November, she might not vote at all. She said Obama has two months to prove to her why she should vote at all - citing that experience matters to her. She stated that she used to be the one to rally her troops to vote, but now she might need the rallying herself. She stated that she was on the threshold of history, being able to elect Clinton. If I could ask her two questions, I would ask her: 1) Doesn't she know she is still on the threshold - being able to elect a Black man; and 2) What first time president actually has 'experience' to be a president? Hillary has never been president; she is a senator such as Obama. I hate the fact that she continuously harped upon her 'experience' and discredited Obama's, and that one of her own ads is now being used by John McCain.

I am excited about being in such a position to make history, and I know Senator Obama has just as much experience as Senator McCain and Senator Clinton. As a party, the democrats need to unify and show other independents such as myself that same unity.

My only other comment about Hillary in general is that had she not ran in the primaries, or had she backed out earlier before feelings ran so high, it would not be this difficult to unite this party. I hope by November, people get over their hurt feelings, their desire to see a woman president, and stand behind Senator Obama and elect him to become President Obama.

Can You Believe What Fox Said About Michelle?

I cried watching Michelle Obama's speech last night. She appeared so amazing, and spoke so eloquently. All I could think of was what an amazing first lady she will be. How proud her mother looked! How proud I felt about this new generation with the possibilities to actually make the changes we have prayed for all our lives.

As a black woman, I know all the stereotypes that we've had to endure from slavery to now. Across the world last night, Michelle destroyed the negative terminologies that follow us in our day to day lives. For every degrading video that is played throughout the world, a dignified black woman stood on the podium and broke the biases. The preconceived notions of black women being loud, militant, angry, impatient and "hot mamas" disappeared last night. Even Michelle had to face the militant stereotype, but that exist because she believes in something greater than settling for average When a black woman dreams, she's going against expectations of a society that doesn't expect greatness from us and that is what makes us militant. When we speak up for ourselves or against injustices that makes us angry. When we won't settle for less in our children and chastise them that makes us impatient and because of our curves that makes us "hot mamas". Michelle destroyed them all with very little effort, because that is who she is, who so many of us are. Given a chance to introduce herself, she did so much more than just give a speech, you gave ambition to those without dreams, courage to those with dreams and persistence to those striving for dreams. Thank you Michelle!

After Ted Kennedy's moving and inspiring speech, it was difficult to imagine how Michelle Obama could have pulled it off. But she certainly did! With style, elegance, intelligence and being a down-to-earth woman steeped in family values, Michelle soared to the top of the list as far as role models is concerned. Barack, you did well!
She's no more an angry black woman than John McCain is.

Earth tones

When you look at the people in the Democratic convention, you see earth tones, all shades of earth from deep black through the shades of brown to light skin. And when listening to Michelle Obama's speech this morning (I didn't stay up last night), I felt grounded in the earth of family and the common life of working people. That's seems to be the undercurrent of this election: who is the most grounded candidate, who is in touch with the people, the country, the times, and himself?

And each candidate tries to frame the other as out of touch, ungrounded, and elitist. Bush beat Kerry because Kerry was defined as being an elitist--which has now become as nasty a word as liberal in the Republican lexicon.

If color is any guide, black and brown represent earth and the body while white represents sky and the mind. Emotion is pitted against reason in this dichotomy where in our culture mind is all to often at war with the body and its urges and values security most. So if you peel back the layers in this political drama we are playing out, you can see the play of colors where the controlling mind fears the earthy body and the riot of its undisciplined emotions.

This division between body and mind plays out in the political parties that divide the collective psyche of our nation. Republicans like to represent rational control; Democrats represent the clamoring of freedom's desire. It's rational male vs. emotional female, head vs. body, control vs. discord, white vs. black, and sky vs. earth. I know this is simplistic but the color scheme carries out.

But in truth this division is totally irrational and illusionary, and anyone who invests their identity in either side is betting on a hand that holds no cards. A mind that is at war with its own body is insane. A life that is at war with itself is unreal. Michelle Obama was very real.

Starting with the closing event of the first day's major event: Michelle's interview as first lady. On Monday, Michelle Obama gave a prime time speech in which she "interviewed" for first lady. A job that Laura Bush currently holds. There are some similarities. Both mothers have two daughters. It was America's job to see if Michelle could measure up... but no news commentators I watched made that comparison. No one should be surprised that there was no rehashing of Barbara and Jenna's bratty behavior of sticking their tongues out of limosines. Some MSNBC commentators revealed that no "news" was made during her speech. It begs the question then as to what the threshold was that allowed Michelle's comment about being really proud of her country for the first time to be HUGE news. The threshold has been heightened on perhaps the greatest political day of her life ... so that NOTHING she said constitutes as news... but an impromptu stump speech has come to define her for millions of americans simply because THAT was news. The news for those who failed to report it is as follows: Michelle Obama has demonstrated that working professional women who ambitiously pursue career and service goals can succeed. How about that particular crack in the glass ceiling? When it comes to women's issues, the news media as we know it can be counted on not to see their noses on their faces.

Obama & Biden pics from Saturday

My husband and I were fortunate enough to be two of the 35,000 that turned out to see Obama introduce Joe Biden as his VP Running Mate on Saturday, in Springfield. We arrived at 7:30AM, and finally got in to the gated area of the Old State Capitol a little after 10:30 AM. Obama took the stage sometime around 2PM. It was a very hot day, and once we got in - there was very little access to water. We were just to the right of the podium (facing), along the fence line. Unfortunately we were just out of reach as the stage seperated too far from the fence line as you got closer to the podium. Obama was able to reach down to someone just a couple people down though.

We decided to have my cousin babysit the boys, since it was entirely too hot for them to be out for that long (plus the crowd size was expected to be big). Special note of thanks to the volunteers that brought water out. We needed more in our area, but again - access was difficult. What we did get, was shared with those most in need (big thanks to everyone that thought of others first).

When Obama took the stage - the once tired and dehydrated crowd came to life. The screams were deafening, hands in the air - people on rails - some even managed to jump up and down. And wouldn't you know it - the breeze came out about that time as well. A cool wind blew over us, as Obama & Biden drove home their most powerful points. I even manged to get chills a few times. It was an experience I will never forget.

Strength in All Ways

Watching the campaign over the past month of so I've noticed more and more that there is a distinct difference in the candidates' level of strength. Physically, socially, and in his presentation Barack Obama exhibits that "super hero" kind of confidence...not to feed into that whole celebrity nonsense. Looking at the differences between Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain I also detect a resiliant strength and longevity in Michelle's presentation (I doubt Michelle Obama's wrist would be sprained by a fan's handshake). Michelle speaks with the strength of a confident, no nonsense woman who best represents the 21st century. I admire her and trust her because I know she understands me and my life as a middle class American woman. The McCains always appear frail and dependent while the Obamas appear as leaders of their party and campaign. The difference extends even into the youth of the candidates and their spouses as the McCains experienced a somewhat pampered lifestyle while the Obamas grew up like most of the rest of us. What we don't need is another out of touch leader whose success was brought about because of daddy's connections or family money. That leader does not understand what the average American experiences. This country seems ready for a leader who has "been there" and who is, for the most part, self made. Strength in character, physique, intellect, and vision along with compassion and true empathy for fellow man is the ideal place to start in describing the right choice for a leader. Only Obama displays such things. Only Obama sees the bigger picture. Only Obama will bring the change that we desperately need. Strength in all ways.

"Barack and I -- as partners, as friends and as lovers -- we accessorize each other in many ways," said Obama, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. "The best thing I love having on me is Barack on my arm and vice versa, whether it's having him standing there smiling at me, or watching him mesmerize a crowd or talk to some seniors in a senior center."
Michelle Obama discussed her marriage, fashion sense and how she balances motherhood and work in an interview with Ebony magazine. The issue hits newsstands nationwide on Aug. 12.
Should she become first lady, Michelle Obama says her primary focus will be on their two daughters -- Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7.
"My first job in all honesty is going to continue to be mom-in-chief," she said, "making sure that in this transition, which will be even more of a transition for the girls ... that they are settled and that they know they will continue to be the center of our universe."
Michelle Obama said the challenges women face in balancing their families and jobs should be highlighted in government policies -- whether it's through better health care or more family leave time.
She also expressed her support for military wives and the additional stress they face when their husbands are away and have done multiple tours of duty. "Tack on the fact that there is no sustained mental health support for these families as they are struggling with loved ones who are coming back dealing with emotional issues," she said. "You've got people in pain and we don't hear those voices a lot."
Michelle Obama, 44, has worked as a lawyer and hospital executive. She has been active in her husband's campaign and is scheduled to speak to military spouses on Wednesday in Norfolk, Va.
Like her husband, she exercises regularly -- an activity that was hard to find time for when the girls were younger and Barack Obama was away working in the Illinois Senate, she said.
She said realized she was putting on weight after her oldest daughter was born. She started working out at 4:30 a.m. and would let her husband help with the children if they cried in the early hours.
"I found it wasn't that Barack wasn't interested in helping," she said. "It's just that when the baby cried at 4 a.m., I got up faster than he did because I would hear the baby and I would be up."
Michelle Obama said she tries to teach her daughters the importance of exercising. The family also eats organic as much as possible, she said.
"(Being fit) has become even more important as I've had children, because I'm also thinking about how I'm modeling health to my daughters," she said.

Over 800 women came together for a luncheon with Michelle Obama in Chicago earlier today. The Women for Obama community celebrated the introduction of Barack's new Plan to Strengthen Working Women and Families.

Judith, Mary and Susan were excited to join the Women for Obama community today. Judith is a working mother of three children. She and her husband both juggle working full-time and maintaining a family. She says that she understands the difficulties of balancing work and family life.

I go to work with a sinking feeling in my heart about having to leave my kids. And I know other mothers feel that too. My neighbors and I talk about it a lot.

She is excited about the health care and educational aspects of Barack's agenda. She said that "we need to give the next generation a good start."

Leslie drove down from Wisconsin this morning to learn more about Barack's plan. She knows firsthand the struggles that women are facing in today's economy.

I know women that are working one or two jobs and more then 40 hours a week. And even with that, they feel like they are treading water. They're losing their homes and they can't afford to pay for health care for their children. Some have health care through the state, but it doesn't cover much. It doesn't give them any options.

She plans to take her copy of the booklet back to her community and is excited to share it with other women.

Kathy, Rhonda, Beth, Jacqueline and Dana were quick to start talking about taking action after the luncheon ended.

We're going to get Kathy's mom on board. She was a Hillary supporter, and it's encouraging to be here today and see how many women from her campaign have joined. Our first step is to talk to our friends and make sure they know that Barack will fight for women's issues.

Well, I'll say it...the New Yorker was Right!

I don't like it, but it does bring things out in the open. Now I know, it's easy for me to say. If my wife was portrayed in an unflattering way and I had to explain it to my children. I could imagine the pain it would cause me. Unfortunately, if you listen to talk radio, people actually believe this stuff! I LOVE talk radio because you can't see faces, so people are anonymous. Anonymity brings true feelings. There are clearly many people that think this way, too. I think it makes them look pretty stupid to just latch on to every stereotype they hear.

The reality is they are just insecure themselves. Many insecurity issues stem from a lack of esteem in one's own accomplishments, relationships, sense of personal power to better their own lives, families, etc. People like that respond primarily to their current emotional state. Let’s not do the same. We are a thinking people seeking to understand “Why?” Maybe the New Yorker just wanted to sabotage the campaign. Maybe the New Yorker wants to keep the status quo. Maybe the New Yorker even wanted to earn a buck. More likely the New Yorker, a LIBERAL publication whose primary role is to satirize, not glamorize polarizing events, sought to expose it’s readers to the stereotypes. "Let’s talk about it," is their defense. Even CNN stated that most people's biggest problem wasn't Michelle’s "Gun-toting Angela Davis" depiction, nor the "terrorist fist bump" the militants (lol) used, not even the "Osama Bin Laden" portrait in the oval office...it was the burning of the American Flag!

This is exactly what we supporters for change want, people to openly argue how ridiculous these stereotypes are. Mind you, nobody has the gumption to argue FOR the merits of the cover. If they do, I hope they try it with me. We're just lucky they've never seen Obama's eastern looking, turban wearing barber (lol). Even that could be problematic for these kind of people.

Yeah, the New Yorker got it right.

Jesse Jackson’s hot-mic comments that looped endlessly last week. In that tape, originally released by the “fair and balanced” Fox news staff, Jackson, brought back horrific memories of brutal post-slavery castration in reference to his ‘friend’ Barack Obama. “I wanna cut his nuts out. … “ Jesse whispered to a fellow guest, just before airtime. And, being that part of our collective American history, particularly in the deep South, was forever tarnished by the systematic hanging, and then castration of Black men, I felt anger and confusion that such a renowned Civil Rights l ieutenant would use such foul imagery. However, after viewing this upcoming week’s The New Yorker cover depicting a Muslim-robed Obama fist-bumping with his Afro-wearing, AK-47 toting wife, Michelle, my anger and disappointment leveled as I began more to face an acceptance that this election, more than any other in history, is baring the scars of a wounded America yet to heal. Every nuance of this campaign is critical because Obama represents a new day for our world — a USA so blistered and fractured by hate and institutional racism that it bleeds wells full of ignorance. Of course, the magazine’s press blurb explains that the cover, by artist Barry Blitt, is merely a satiric play on the use of scare tactics put forth in this campaign to derail Obama’s candidacy. However, in my mind, the use of an Oval Office backdrop with American flag burning in the nearby fireplace in the etching, just serves as yet another scare tactic. Period. Oh, in case you didn’t notice, that’s a portrait of Osama bin Laden just behind the heads of the loving couple. But that’s just satire…right?

Cover Obama: Don't Buy the New York Err

The LA Times, though generally excusing the Obama New Yorker cover, had this to say:

Obama declined comment today, seeking not to elevate its importance. But, in a move that certainly drew more attention to a commercial decision with no hope of changing it, his campaign issued a statement by Bill Burton which Mike Allen of Politico.com reported as, “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Sen. Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree."
The McCain campaign immediately e-mailed a similar statement from Tucker Bounds: “We completely agree with the Obama campaign, it’s tasteless and offensive.”

That said, why would the New York Err put such an extreme caricature on its cover at this time, and for the first time?

I used to read the New Yorker when I had more time. And the cartoons were always great, but some of them were difficult to understand. Yes, it is satire; it's an extreme pictorial exaggeration in a "high-brow" publication of ignorant, low-brow right-wing accusations. That does not excuse its being used as a full-color cover as we enter the general election season!

This broadside has no context, unless it’s the NY-err's criticism in the guise of critique of Keith Olbermann, the country's only left-of-center pundit featured by a major national r electronic news outlet, less than a month ago!

Where are the full-page, let alone cover cartoons of Joe Lieberman sitting on a fence playing kissy-face with McSame? Heck where is the cartoon of any of size in the NY-err featuring a McSame gorgon falling asleep wearing a dunce cap, with Vietnamese, Iraqi, and Iranian babies in its teeth? Horrible, but that’s how some crazy left-wingers are portraying those nice old men, so it would be satire!

Don't buy the NY-err… ever again! I sure won’t! If you have a subscription, please consider canceling it (they make advertising revenue based on the number of readers).

By the way, let's not beat this drum cover for too long. Keeping the lies personified by that cartoon in the public eye is just what the McSame campaign wants. Don't do their work for them.

Barack and Michelle Obama, of sound and of like mind, could, if given the proper chance(s), lead this country back on track, "for such a time as this." If given the proper chance(s), they could guide us back to American life as it was during President Clinton's terms. We are America - and we definitely don't need to be thrown off our Axis!!! (Choose Obama for President in November 2008.)

Priviliged to work as a volunteer for Senator Obama's Campaign has a therapeutic element personally for me. Like many, I'm starting to feel resurrected as far as dreams and hopes and as far as change goes. I see an influx of people helping out more in my hometown; college students are excited about change and unity. Many people can see brighter tomorrows filled with hope and change all for the better, and for all people. It is truly global and truly phenomenal.

There used to be a saying, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful." Well Don't hate Barack or Michelle Obama because they love their country. Don't hate Barack Obama because he hopes for his country. Don't ask yourself what you can hate about Barack Obama. Ask yourself how you can have the same kind of hope for our country and help to bring positive change for our country. Ask yourself how can we all re-ignite unity across the land. Don't hate them because they are beautiful.

You have to admit that hope and change are alive and thriving; so the questions are: "What can I do? How can I help?" Questions of togetherness and not divisiveness. I cannot express the importance of volunteering for the Obama Campaign if you can right now!

Whatever issues are yours, whatever matters to you, I believe Senator Obama can address them. You NEED and want a Man of the Hour such as he in office. Senator Obama is not "all talk" or "fluff". He just didn't appear out of nowhere. He's all around, travelling and listening to you. He's movin' and groovin. We thank you and love you Michelle and Barack Obama.

My 'Hood' In Butte Mt. Great Great Grandma Johannas' "Glenn House"...Red Roof Behind The Tall Tree (I Planted 1974) On Right.
I've now lived in Seattle for over 30 years. I've lived here but I still consider my birthplace and childhood home of Butte, Montana my true home. So when friends asked why Mr. Obama would want to visit Butte Montana for the 4th...while an obvious choice for anyone knowing Buttes significant history, not so much for the average American.

Most feel that Montana's electorate would never be numerous enough to greatly affect national politics, but what the state lacked in quantity, it has more than made up for in the effectiveness of it's elected representatives. Always politically conscious and demonstrative, Butte, itself, has entertained and imposing number of presidents and candidates. Many of them appearing in Buttes wonderful 4th of July festivities. Among those, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Howard Taft, Warren Harding, Eisenhower and JFK and Mrs. Kennedy.

So why was Butte Montana a required stop on the road to the White House? We'll in a word, mining. The mines of Butte always have been the true essence of Butte. Most who have lived in Butte were unusually dependent on the mines in one way or another. Butte copper played key roles in the industrialization of America. My own family lived in Butte since 1860 and all Irish immigrants from Cork Ireland. Most although not all of them were hard rock miners. As the people of Butte created a unique lifestyle of the great mining camp, so did the mines create the lifestyle of the people.

Most aren't aware that the "Richest Hill On Earth" is also known as "The Gibraltar of Unionism". Butte has been a union town since June 13, 1878 when the Butte Workingman's Union was organized. Since that time, there have been strikes, violence, solidarity, and dynamiting's! One of the many union disputes occurred on June 23 rd 1914 when bout 100 men opened rifle fire from Union Hall upon thousands of miners gathered around the building. The miner's returned the fire causing the Union president and others to ultimately flee the building. The attacking miners then took cases of dynamite from the nearby mines and blew up the hall! Whatever the changes in union alignments may have been, one fact is clear: Butte has always been a union town!

Coming full circle Butte is now the site of the largest superfund cleanup in the country. The people of Butte are working diligently to ensure that the the mining that occurred in the last 140 years, does not have adverse effects on Montana's pristine ecology. Their efforts are impressive. They have completed a ground water treatment facility which removes the toxic minerals from existing mine water and it is then returned to nearby Silver Bow Creek safe for fish and wildlife.

So when Mr. Obama visits Butte on Friday to appear in the parade, no doubt, this history played a significant role. Butte is a prime example of what is important to America...Families, Immigrants, Industry, history, and of course politics and the environment.

The theme of this years celebration is "Family Business".

The campaign made a smart choice for the Obama family. One that I believe will put Montana firmly in the Obama war chest of growing former republican strongholds.

I've been reading with dismay the messages on the newest, fastest-growing MyBO group, SenatorObama-PleaseVoteAgainstFISA. Many (not all) of those people are really taking things too far. They are withdrawing all support from Obama and even asking for refunds for all previous donations made to the Obama campaign.

I am appalled. Who in their right mind would rather see a President McCain who would strengthen and expand spying programs and invade more and more of our privacy. There are many ways to put pressure on Obama, but threatening to put in office someone who is much, much worse on the very issue you are upset about... well, that's just stupidity.

Let's get real here, people. Obama is supporting a compromise. You know you've got a compromise when people on both sides are unhappy... and, well, that's what we've got. People on both sides are definitely unhappy. I'm unhappy, a lot of people on this site are unhappy, conservatives are unhappy. Meanwhile, McCain is laughing and loving this.

Obama's central platform has always been compromise versus gridlock. He has told us over and over that he will compromise rather than allow gridlock to rule the day. Did these people not listen? Or did they just choose to ignore that. Obama has told us over and over that the pursuit of perfection is the enemy of improvement. Entrenchment is the enemy of progress.

This bill is a first step, not the end game. It's up to us to ensure that we keep moving forward on this issue. Now, I'm not saying that I like this compromise, but I am saying that moving forward an inch by electing Obama is much better than moving backwards by a mile by electing McCain.

I think the reason we're seeing so much opposition is because Democrats are feeling too comfortable about November. People are taking it for granted that Obama is doing so well now that he is a shoo-in (as a matter of fact, many of the FISA activists are saying so explicitly). But he is not a shoo-in. This race will be much closer than it appears now. Remember the Republican primary when everyone thought McCain's candidacy was dead? Heck, remember when everyone thought that Hillary was inevitable? Remember 2004 when everyone thought that the hatred for Bush was so wide and so deep that he had to lose???

Many presidential candidates have been considered inevitable and then lost. Many times a candidate has been way ahead and then America had buyers remorse close to the election. Many things could also change between now and then to make Americans more fearful, more willing to accept a war-monger like McCain. We need to be building a lead, a cushion of support, if you will -- not taking it for granted that we can do whatever we want right now and still win in November.

If Obama gets into office, I believe we will see movement in the direction we want on this issue. But I also believe with all of my heart that if McCain gets into office, we're going to see movement in the opposite direction. Do we really need to be reminded of all of the things that are different about Obama and McCain, including FISA?

Obama is in a no win situation right now, and it is unreasonable supporters who have put him there. If he did not compromise on FISA, he would have lost support from Independents and moderates who he needs to win in November. At the same time, he is being treated by some purity trolls as a traitor (or worse) for compromising.

The best way to get support for the position we want on FISA is to change public opinion. Obama made the compromise he made because public opinion is what it is. You can have an opinion, but so can the rest of America. And guess what... numbers matter most!

So, the bottom line... do what Obama has asked of you all along: Get out there and work to make change, don't expect him to do all of the heavy lifting without support and involvement from the grassroots. How many times has Obama said he can't do it without us? Did you really understand what that meant? Give it some thought. Much of the work and support he was talking about was about changing public opinion and putting pressure on other elected officials to support these very positions.

Obama told us what he needs us to do so that he can accomplish the goals we set forth. Instead of doing that, some people have chosen to attack him instead, even asking for donations to be refunded from months and months back.

Well, I will be donating as much as I can scrape together this month to make up for those who are resorting to such nonsense. Who's with me?

Have we become so imature, selfish and politicaly unethical that if we don't get what we want we vote outside of everything we believe in? Remove our support and donations? How is it "a win" if your losing big time? That being the case self distruct on your own. Don't try and bring Obama down with you. In my eyes you were never truly for his vision, positins or policies to begin with. Real Obama supporters, please stand up against those looking to destroy us from within for thier own selfish short sited agendas!

I'm utterly appauled by adults who act like children and refuse to compromise on an issue that isn't even on the list most effecting Americans today. Is this FISA bill going to put gas in my car, food on the table, keep me employed, bring down the cost of health care, bring home our troops? NO! Has anyone even read it in full or is everyone just jumpin on the "I hate Obama because he isn't doing what "I" want him to do toaday" band wagon?!

While you guys are throwing meaningless hissy fits McCain is chummin in up in Colombia with known terrorist sypothysers, deafulting on taxes he hasn't paid in three years on one of seven properties he owns, while doing another one of his famous flip flops on his ability to know somethig about how to run an economy; let alone managing his wife's hundreds of thousdand dollar spending sprees. I think your frustration is way off base. Get back on message and take your drama to your local congressman...it's their fault...oh wait they are on vacation...

Right now, Fox News is trying to paint Barack Obama as foreign, un-American, suspicious, and scary. They're trying to send Americans the message that our country's first viable Black candidate for President is not "one of us."

Here are some recent deplorable instances:

After Senator Obama won the nomination, he and his wife gave each other a "pound" in front of the cameras. Fox anchor E.D. Hill called the act of celebration a "terrorist fist jab." Then last week, a Fox News on-screen graphic referred to Michelle Obama as "Obama's baby mama"--slang used to describe the unmarried mother of a man's child. It was a clear attempt to associate the Obamas with negative cultural stereotypes about Black people, an insult not only to Michelle Obama but to women and Black people everywhere.

After each of the incidents mentioned, Fox issued some form of weak apology. But what does it mean when you slap someone in the face, apologize the next day, then slap them again on the third? It means the apology is meaningless.

These aren't one-time incidents--they're part of a pattern that continues no matter how often Fox is forced to apologize. Fox has a clear record of attacking and undermining Black institutions, Black leaders, and Black people in general.

If we don't push back now, we will see more of the same from now until November. Please join me in helping to bring an end to Fox's behavior.

Why should I be proud of this country?

Cindy McCain has recently started a smack-down on Michelle Obama, over Michelle's words, months earlier:

...for the first time in my adult lifetime I am really proud of my country. And
not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry
for change.”

I am so tired of the same old politics. Why can't the media look at the meat of the issues? Since they won't, let's break it down.

Michelle at no time said she was proud of her country for the first time. Let's just get it out there- Cindy and others are lying, and knowingly. Michelle said for the first time, she was really proud. Anyone who has a basic knowledge of English understands that this implies that the speaker has been proud in the past, but is now extra proud.

Why was she proud? Not for a self-serving reason, but because, for the first time in her adult life, there is a move to change the status quo, to shift our paradigms, to do something new. I echo this. For the first time in my life, since I didn't live in the 60s, I'm seeing this too. And this is really what the media should be focusing on- that Michelle was pointing out a sea change in the way we do politics. Instead, sadly they chose to focus on the lowest common denominator, and rallied around the Fox flag.

Let us go deeper. I think it is great that our country is ready for change. But what is the problem with pointing out that there are reasons to lack pride in one's country? When did that become an evil? How can we grow unless we recognize our faults? Though Michelle didn't say this, she would not have been at fault to say, "For the first time, I'm proud of my country." There is nothing wrong with saying you are not proud of your country; that your country makes mistakes. Just as with individuals, it is a sign of maturity if you can recognize errors, and work to change them.

Deeper still. How is it even okay to be proud of your country? Here I go beyond what Michelle is capable of, for I recognize that the candidate and his family have to be patriotic, if they're to be elected. But for the rest of us, has everyone forgotten how often patriotism leads to war? Patriotism inherently entails putting my country first, saying my country is better than others just because it's my country. And this always leads to forcing other countries to see it your way. And for those who are Christians, patriotism is idolatry.

And this brings us to the deepest level. Why Michelle was wrong in her statement. This mass forgetfulness in our nation, where we no longer remember that pride is a bad thing. Sure, being proud in another is something different. But pride is one of the seven deadly sins, if the most overlooked one. It does come before the fall. Pride is where I focus on myself, or my group, rather than God, or others. I start to think I am great, and too great, when I am proud. To extend that to my group is precisely that- extending the boundaries of my own ego. And to Michelle's credit, the rest of her statement indicates that she's not supporting her own ego- rather, she's proud of what others are doing, and bolstering them up. Which leaves me with only one thing wrong with Michelle's statement- a grammatical error in the use of the word "pride". Which surely isn't the biggest issue of this campaign?

Michelle's appearance on the View today was a big hit. But it's just a start in a long struggle. The right wing noise machine will be relentless in attacking her in the coming months.

I had an idea that has resonated with everyone I have told it to--especially women. Thought I would share it here.

The concept is a series of very subtle, 30 second commercials featuring ONLY Michelle, and makes no mention of the campaign, except at the end.

Each spot just opens without fanfare, and has Michelle doing the voice over about one particular issue facing American women, and especially mothers. (Right-to-choose, education, health care, etc.). Each is informative, fact-laden, and emphatic in tone, but not strident. The video content is almost irrelevant. It could be still photos. Only the narration really matters.

Regardless of content, each spot ends with:

""I'm Michelle Obama, and this is one more reason this election means so much to me as a woman, a mother, and an American. Won't you please urge all your friends to vote?"

Of course, the final line must be:

"I'm Barack Obama and I Paid for this Message"

If you like this idea, please blog it, and pass it around. Perhaps the campaign will see it, and discuss it. I think it's a fresh approach, without rancor, could be viral, memorable, and might help to mitigate some of the right wing's attack squading to demonize Michelle.

i'm tuning in to <i>The View</i> and it further cements my feelings about Michelle Obama. she is the one that's gonna bring the chicks, women, girls, broads, mommies and babes into the Obama fold. she's one helluva smart cookie. she's thoughtful, smart, educated, well read and cares about her children. and i kinda dig that hairdo she sports...kinda like a smart black Jackie Kennedy 'do with some flava. i like it. and she shops at Target. i'm so there!!!

I'm so glad that barackobama.com has added a page that responds to the lies and smears. With, you know, the truth ... based on evidence and reason? Remember those?

One of the most worrisome things to me about this campaign is the effort to smear Obama through whisper campaigns that fly below the radar (ie via emails, blogs, etc). You know the ones I'm talking about: Obama is a secret Muslim infiltrator, Michelle screamed Whitey, he won't wear the flag pin or was sworn in to congress on the Koran, etc etc.

As far-flung as some of these rumors are, I believe they can be incredibly damaging to the campaign. The New Republic published a study recently about race and politics. They showed that overt racism in political campaigns is ineffective. It turns off more voters than it attracts.

But COVERT or coded racism is extremely effective. It plays on people's fears and prejudices without specifically seeming like racism. It can sway a lot of voters.

These rumors have that in common: racial anxieties, religious fears, xenophobia. None of them explicity says "Don't vote for Obama because he's black. Or Don't vote for him because he spent part of his youth in a foreign country. Or his father was a Muslim." but they play up on these very common fears and are extremely hard to answer.

How do you prove that someone DIDN'T ever say whitey? You can't. It's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to prove a negative statement. You could never prove conclusively to someone that believed in unicorns that unicorns DON'T exist. "Well why has no one ever seen one?" you might ask. "They're hiding," they'd say. "People have searched the world over and never found one. No skeletons, fossils, no evidence that they exist or ever existed. No trace of their presence," you might say. "They're very good hiders. It's in their nature. The living ones hide the bones of the dead," And so on.

Likewise on these blogs and emails. "The tape is out there. Several people know several people who have seen it." I've even started to see the argument that no tape is necassary to prove she said it (Could the argument be shifting because even the right wing bloggers are starting to realize that no tape exists?) "You don't need a tape to show that Abe Lincoln said 'Four Score and Seven Years Ago...'" And so the argument goes on. And the unicorns were just here. You just missed them! They're hiding again now, of course.

Anyway, those are just a few rambling thoughts about my concerns regarding this issue...

The smears play up on pre-existing fears. They're extremely effective in that they use covert cues to effectively elicit a response that--if they were stated overtly--would be ineffective. And lastly they are extremely effective and hard to disprove or counter.

So how do we fight them?

With the truth and reason and evidence. Sadly, these can sometimes seem like small and ineffective tools. Especially when there are so many who don't believe in or won't listen to arguments based on reason and logic. They're responding out of fear.

If you get one of these smear messages, a good response is to respond by sending a link to the response page on Obama's site. Again, I often think the truth and reason are blunt instruments, tapping ineffectively on the boulder-sized fears of these people, but you never know who you might help.

There's a famous quote by Mark Twain tha runs something like, "A lie runs halfway round the world before the truth can get its boots on." An writer in the National Review once added, as an aside, "But, eventually, truth gets booted and spurred, and the lie gets a good licking."

Now if only that were so...

We must act as if it were.

Pls excuse any typos I was a bit emotional and rushed when I wrote this. It is just my opinion but I believe Mr. Obama should address this, either he or a surrogate. It’s just not right to attack Michelle this way, with lies to boot. And for CNN to perpetuate this lie further under the guise of responsible un-biased reporting is even more shameful.

THE SHAME OF CNN. Have you noticed the bias in reporting since Obama won the election. Now that the race is between Dems and Republicans it is becoming painfully obvious to me that CNN, is as biased if not more biased that FOX. I feel their recent reporting is divisive and shameful. They have moved away from the issues and blame it on the candidates. Spreading rumors that appear on the net without substantiation. (yes I know that the Dems started TOO MANY of these rumors against Obama) and that really makes them SPECIAL. Either way this is not what is best for America. And it makes me really start to wonder if either party is good for the masses of Americans who simply want a decent job a living wage and to give their children a better chance than they had….

The reporting of the
“Baby Momma” statement from FOX was disgusting.. It was repeated every hour on the hour and over n over again during the hour. And I watched it all night hoping some change would come to the story or the reporting of it. But noting new came out of it so I watched until I could take no more and changed the channel at 2am. In the end their opinion was that it is ok to attack THE WIFE OF a candidate for the President of the United States…..no there is no honor in our news nor our political system anymore. This "Me First" mentality that has been perpetuated by the Republicans is going to destroy all that is great about America.

The reporting by CNN, on all levels was truly sickening. To repeat the statement over and over again and such a racist statement is it especially in the context in which it was used is even more shameful.. They basically promoted and supported FOX in the ascertation that it is ok to defame Ms Obama. Watch your back Barrak, the kid gloves are off and too many in America don’t want the good that you will do to come to fruition.Our reporters too many are uninformed, un caring, and don’t realize or don’t care that to serve the best interest of the public is their duty. The media should be our informers, not just our reporters. News not longer truly investigates they just report sound bytes, whether they are Fact or Not.
