Yesterday, RAGBRAI kicked off from Missouri Valley, Iowa, and we’ve already heard from dozens of our supporters who were taking time off to join in this exiting bike ride. There are also dozens of groups of our supporters cheering on the riders at stops along the way. There was even a MyBo event created for supporters to help get the word out about Voting Early by Mail here in Iowa at one of the stops along the way!
The campaign for change even took the tradition of using Burma Shave signs to entertain the bike riders—but with a slight twist. Check out the slideshow below of several signs that lined the bike route.
Over the upcoming weeks and months, we need to be reaching out to our friends family and neighbors to make sure they know about Barack and the campaign for change. It’s going to take getting creative—like these fun “Burma Shave” signs, and getting the word out about important opportunities like Early Voting.
If you want get involved by hosting your own event on MyBarackObama.com, click here to get started. There are instructions and it’s a great way to meet some of your neighbors who are also looking to make a difference in this important election. And don’t forget about voting early by mail. At any event you are hosting you should mention this important opportunity to vote for Barack right now! Visit the Iowa Election headquarters for more information or to request your vote by mail ballot!
Riders started the day Thursday in Cedar Falls and traveled to Independence. The Bikers for Barack joined in for all 62 miles of the trip sporting "Ride for Change" t-shirts which prompted many cheers. Along the way, the Obama riders stopped at RAGBRAI favorites such as roadside food vendors Pastafari and Beekman's Ice Cream.
The riders also stopped along the way to chat with Black Hawk County farmers and took a photo with the farmers' most reliable and favorite tractor--a 1966 Farmall 806, which still had its original coat of the classic red International paint.
While the riders have returned home now, the energy and excitement about Barack continues to circulate around the state. You can check out this post that also talks about all the Barack supporters involved with RAGBRAI. Keep watching the blog to learn about other exciting Iowa events that have taken place, and if you are interested in helping out at future events be sure to drop by your local office!
