Veterans share support for Obama in Charles City visit By Staci Schwickerath, Staff writer A 32-year U.S. Air Force veteran told Charles City residents on Tuesday that he will vote for Barack Obama for president because of the Illinois senator’s vision for the future and his support for veterans. Retired Major General Scott Gration, along with Iowa Veterans for Obama, made a campaign stop at the Charles City Public Library on Tuesday for the Democratic presidential candidate. “He’s a man with a sense of history, a man with a vision for the future, a man who appreciates the veterans and the military young men and women and the people who are sacrificing for our country,”?said Gration. “Therefore, he is someone I?can endorse as our next commander in chief, the president of the United States of the America.” Gration's military service includes serving as the commander of Task Force West during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was involved in 274 combat mission in Iraq.
