Packed house at Grinnell College tonight:
Barack came out and started speaking to the crowd about hope for the future and rejecting the cynicism that has dominated our political process.
Don't listen to the cynics who tell you you don't make a difference in this election. At this moment, don't let the cynics tell you that you have to settle for what they say you have to settle for.
Barack took a few questions, and one Republican student asked why he should vote for Barack. Here's part of his response:
I believe that the only way we're gonna solve our problems is by creating a political majority for change....For most of your lives, our politics has been based on a divided country. You basically have 47% on one side, 47% on the other, 5% in the middle, they all live in Florida or Ohio...you eke out a victory, but then you can't govern. You and I may have philosophical differences on some issues. But I promise you this. I will always tell you what I think...I will listen to you even when we disagree...One of the reasons why I have high popularity among Republicans in Illinois [is because] they know that I'll listen. And I don't think any one party has a monopoly on wisdom...I'll wake up each day thinking about how to make your life a little bit better, and not how to keep myself in elected office.
Here's a slideshow of more pictures from the event.
