African Americans spend 30% more of their income on their overall energy costs than any other group in the country. African Americans are earning less on average than their white counterparts. Therefore a higher percentage of their income is spent on rising energy and food costs.
On average a minimum wage worker has to work an entire 8-hour day plus overtime just to buy a tank of gas. (Based on an average of $3.54/gallon, a 15 gallon tank and the federal minimum wage)
As President, Barack Obama will provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American families and pay for it with a windfall profits tax on big oil companies. He also will expand the Earned Income Tax Credit so that full-time workers earning minimum wage would earn up to three times the benefit they receive today.
Just one more reason to vote for Barack Obama.
