We're still about 20 minutes from Senator Obama's arrival and we've already got an energized crowd of a few hundred folks. It's a beautiful setting right on Lake Oelwein, near the Lions Shelter.
Kyle Strosahl, our local organizer welcomed the crowd with a little Barack Obama Trivia. We just opened a new office in Oelwein, and have many of them all over the state. So be sure to find your local office and stop in!
Check back throughout the day for more updates on Barack's visits.
***Update***
Barack is finishing up in Oelwein by taking some questions from the crowd. When Congressman Bruce Braley introduced Barack, he said Iowans always ask the tough questions.
He said, "That's what Iowa does – we help mold the best candidates we can find."
And it's definitely happening now – tough questions on truly diverse issues. We've had questions about depleted uranium, children with special needs and about what a President Obama would do in his first hundred days in office.
Barack has a very specific agenda for his first 100 days:
During his remarks, Barack hit on the major themes but none was more discussed than the war in Iraq.
Barack mentioned George Bush's recent proclamation about all the supposed progress in Iraq. And said:
"We have an administration that issued a series of benchmarks that any serious observer would say haven't been met. And now the Iraqi parliament is going on vacation."
"It's time to say to the president the time is up, enough is enough, our men and women have done what we asked of them, they got Saddam Hussein, they have shown that there are no weapons of mass destruction, now it's time to bring them home."
This was the first time Barack has stopped in Fayette since he announced his candidacy for president. These events are great opportunities for folks to come out and get a close up view of these candidates and really dig in to the details of their policy positions.
Here's some more pictures from the event in our Flickr account.
Now we're off to Elkader, so keep checking in!
