anyway, im super excited and i got off the phone with a lady from WV. It was my first time making calls..and i felt so amateur, but she was a sweet lady. I told her so too!We are going to have some surprises int he future, but the candle flickers violently before its put out!

Ive only made like 30 calls and I still feel like an amateur even though my job involved being on the phone a lot. Thank you for calling. I say we both keep on trying until we get comfortable and make sure we do what we can before November. I feel fired up still from Tuesday night and I know we still have a long way to go! "On May 20 we're going to declare victory," said an Obama senior advisor who asked that his name be withheld to speak candidly, adding that after those contests they will be "the ones with the most pledged delegates and the most popular votes."

While the nature of that declaration of victory is "still developing," in the advisor's words, the Obama campaign contends that the winner of a majority of pledged delegates should be the party nominee.

"Senator Obama, our campaign and our supporters believe pledged delegates is the most legitimate metric for determining how this race has unfolded," wrote Obama campaign manager David Plouffe Wednesday in a memo to superdelegates. "It is simply the ratification of the DNC rules - your rules - which we built this campaign and our strategy around."

These people were mainly hired by these networks to do their bidding.

Therefore make NO mistake THEY ARE THE ENEMY!!! In Sen. Clinton's words "they're in it, to win it!" So they are not going to tell the true story behind the MI/Fl debacle.

They are not going to talking about how the surge isn't working and it was an idea that McCain promoted as much as Guiliani mentioned 9/11.

They are not going to talk about how a cross demographic (whites, blacks, asian, latinos, native americans) of U.S. voters are supporting Sen. Obama and have been since the beginning of this election cycle, which is why he's over 150 plus delegates ahead of Sen. Clinton.

They are not going to talk about that some of the greatest economic minds (including 2 nobel prize winners in economics) have all endorsed Sen. Obama's economic plans because he's very knowledgeable and McCain isn't!

They are not going to talk about Iraq because Sen. Obama was DEAD ON in his analogy of what was to come if we invaded that country.

They are not going to talk about Sen. Obama's healthcare initiative, which has the best chance of passing with bi-partisan approval. Bi-partisan approval is paramount, which is why Sen. Clinton's plan failed before and why it was rejected by the legislature in CA.

MSM trigger the worst impulses in a society, not the best!

This morning on Morning Joe, Joe stated that a lot of Blue Colar workers (white) are having trouble voting for Barack because of race (yea right Joe that sounds like you). Then he went on to say that Chris Matthews told him that he (Chris) had not been around black people until he went to college. Now I thought to myself, that answers the questions as to why Chris turned on Obama in PA. I think Chris was never supporting Obama because Chris was already in Rendell pocket.

It is amazing to me that Chris doesn't know how ignorant that sounds, even if it is true. There's is no doubt that race often depicts cultural differences but it is till hard to fathom that people in 2008 really vote on race. I am a Black person and I've voted for white people all of my life without reagrd to race. I also know that of Clarence Thomas or Alan Keyes were running against a qualified white person, I would never pick either of them based on race. I would love Obama as a candidate if he were white because of what I think he stands for. It is beyond me what about Obama anyone can hate even if they are a Hillary supporter. Strangely enough all of my poor opinion of Hillary has everthing to do with her lack of character and nothing to do with her race. Also, I do not hate her.

I just wanted to address one of your concerns very briefly though.

You stated that Obama only won states that had a 25% African-American population. I never knew that other states that Obama won including Idaho, Colorado, Vermont, Illinois, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Missouri, Washington, Nebraska, Alaska, Kansas, Minnesota, Maine, Hawaii, Delaware, Utah and Wyoming had such large African-American populations. Thanks for the update on the changing demographics in the US!

Sounds like you got some misinformation, Ernie. Please do some research for yourself. Barack Obama does love this country, and he does pledge allegiance to the flag. ONE photo was circulated of him STANDING for the NATIONAL ANTHEM. Well if you go to any sports event on any given day, you will see thousands of people standing in respect of the national anthem without their hands over their hearts. The national anthem is not the same as the pledge.

I suggest reading Dreams from my Father....I suggest viewing videos...and I suggest reading from the hundreds of thousands of bloggers and avoid believing what the media has replayed over and over for their own ratings.....I believe Barack Obama has run the most incredible campaign that is in touch with the people, with the 21st Century ....disenfranchising no one....true to his personal ethics....using contributions so brilliantly........I believe we will see an overwhelming win in November....a much stronger America, a much better economy and the respect in the world that our country deserves.

I have said it before and I will say it again. I dont know why everyone keeps saying that Barack can not win over "the white vote". He has well proven that he can. What HRC fails to prove is that she can garner the AA vote. She has not and had she been the nominee she would not! You never hear that said on MSM because they dont want to convey that to the American people. But I will tell you loud and clear:
HRC CAN NOT WIN THE AA VOTE!
Bill has burned too many bridges and HRC just cant appeal to us like he(Bill)used to back in the nineties. GIVE IT UP and go get an education so that you can learn how to spell American. (If you live here then at the very least you should be able to spell it!)

I know many Hillary fans haven't taken a lot of time to get to know Barack but stay on the blog and you will learn more.

There are actually quite a few people on the blog who voted for Hillary but have switched over now that it is clear that Barack will be the nominee.

Lots of misinformation out there on Barack, and now is a good time to start learning more. You might notice that for his major speeches (Perfect Union speech, the economic speech at Cooper Union) he was surrounded by American flags.

Did you know that it is impossible to find an American Flag pin that is made in the US? Did you know that a veteran gave Barack a flag pin during one of his town hall meetings in Pennsylvania and Barack proudly pinned it on his lapel? There are lots of videos and pictures of Barack pledging allegiance to the flag, I'm sure people on the blog would be happy to supply links if you want to see for yourself.

I don't think you have ever been to many of the states that Senator Obama won by extraordinarily large margins. The largest victory Senator Obama received was from the good people of Idaho (70% of the vote) and the folks up there are almost all of European decent.

I do wish that people would stop dissecting us up into groups -- it is rather nauseating.
What is facing America is facing all of us -- our public schools are failing everywhere, our infrastructure is crumbling everywhere, our soldiers are playing whack-a-mole in Iraq at their peril and they come from every state, our healthcare premiums are soaring for everyone and everyone fears being without healthcare.

Our dollar is declining for everyone. We need to come together as ONE people to address all of this -- if you must divide off into groups, which one will you belong to? Do we divide into religious affiliations? Do we divide by where our ancestors came from (if we even know). Are you ancestors from England or elsewhere?

Do you know the Flems and the French in Belgium are at each other's throats? Shall we divide like that too in this Country? This dividing us, dissecting us and parcing us up into little bitty pieces isn't good for this Country and is exactly why we need Senator Obama to be the 44th President of these United States. He understands our problems are everybody's problems and will bring us together to face them as ONE people. Thank goodness!

If a HRC supporter wants to come to our site and vent I don't blame him. They've had a rough campaign. Can you imagine donating your money and the campaign is always broke? Could you imagine how hard it must be to defend HRC when her positions keep changing from state to state? Let's just guide him in the right direction by pointing out to him that there are plenty of resources available to him to let him see the light on BO. He can start by reading "Dreams from my father" which will then inspire him to read "The Audacity of hope" finally if he's smart he will come back to this site and read where BO stands on all the issues. If that doesn't change his opinion we probably do not want him anyway.

You are sadly misinformed Ernie. It is sad because you are missing the opportunity of a lifetime to be a part of a movement that brings us all together as human beings, reminded that we have our humanity in common.

I'm not going to defend any of the items you listed as your issues with Senator Obama because not one of them is worth arguing with someone whose world is so closed off that you believe anything you read or hear. There is a reason more than 1/2 of the Democratic party, over half of all independents and a good number of Republicans believe that this man can lead this nation and it's people in the right direction. Jump on board -- you will not regret it.

Congratulations on first, Jeri!

Good morning Obama family,

Yesterday I got a call from the OR field office. I had planned to go down earlier but my son and I have both been sick for literally three weeks and I was afraid I'd missed my chance with mail-in voting. But the volunteer assured me that they will still be on the ground the weekend before May 20th, so I signed up to go.

Last night I set up my fundraising page. I have never had a fundraising page before because I always encouraged people to make matching donations. But faced with the fact that a trip to Oregon was going to cost me the $300 I usually donate in a month to the campaign, I felt a pang of guilt. I'm traveling with my son, so I much prefer to stay in a hotel rather than in the home of strangers -- even "old friends I've just met," to quote Gonzo from the Muppet Movie.

Anyway, this is my request: Will you help me meet my modest fundraising goal of $300? Obviously this isn't money for me, it's just my way of trying to drum up the money I normally would have sent straight to the campaign so I can go to Oregon guilt-free.

In return, you'll all get a photojournal and a full report from the trip! :)

I'm sure there are Oregonians willing to help out visiting Obama workers. Talk with the Oregon Obama groups; check out their offers to help - ask if they have separate quarters for you. Also, check with local hostels -- way cheaper than a hotel.

In Ashland you can stay for around $25-$30 a night with full accommodations; everything you could want - all you buy is food. We have 2 hostels to choose from.

Senator Obama already won the Virginia primary by a large percentage of the vote (and Virginia is a BIG state last time I checked).

Senator Obama has campaigned in West Virginia already -- I guess you missed that? He will campaign in all states, but he also now the presumptive Democratic nominee in all but official name and he must start campaigning for the general election too.

Don't fret -- West Virginians and Kentuckians will not be ignored! Every vote must be earned in this Country -- every single one.

This is the most significant difference between this campaign and every other one that is still remaining -- Senator Obama knows people's votes have to be earned! Other candidates seem to believe people can be frightened into voting for them, tricked into voting for them or just plain discouraged from voting altogether.

I am proud to be a part of the campaign that is earning every vote and not stooping down into the mud to try and frighten, trick or dissuade voters. Yes we can!

Don't believe everything you read.
I probably count as a trial lawyer -- though I haven't actually been in trial since 1999. I have been in Court though since 1999. I don't have any clout with anybody in Washington, but I have given money (for the 1st time in my life) to this campaign.

My money combined with other people's money (I personally know over 20 folks who have contributed to this campaign who would all probably count as so-called "trial lawyers") might make it appear like something is happening here.... but I can tell you 17 of the people I know have actually tried ONE or fewer cases.

There are many, many lawyers in this world, but few very powerful trial lawyers. AND the powerful trial lawyers DO protect you from some fairly horrific things, like cars that blow-up when they get in accidents, medicines that actually kill you (with undisclosed side effects), toys with lead in them & etc.

Shakespeare wrote a play in which he had a villian say "First, let's kill all the lawyers." This villian believed that the lawyers must 1st be killed so that he could create havoc in his world and end liberties of men.

We are the ones who first realized that our Constitution was being abused to the point that our great Republic is at risk of becoming a monarchy -- that unitary theory of the executive. We are not bad; we are a necessary force protecting this society and our Republic.

Anyway, I know my contributions don't correlate into some vast conspiracy by trial lawyers -- I am just an ordinary person who happened to go to law school. I am the first to do so in my family. Should my parents (who were born and raised in very small-town Kansas) be ashamed of me? My life is no cake walk. Law firms are cutting healthcare and I have never been provided with a pension. I have only had one job where I actually received vacation time. I might have been better off to have not gone to college, or law school (student loan debts!) and simply joined a union. At least, I would have healthcare and a pension. As it is, I pay for healthcare out of my own pocket as an individual and must plan for my own retirement and HOPE it is enough.

This is a great idea.

I campaign everywhere I go by wearing my Obama buttons.

It opens up conversations with people everywhere.

People are afraid to be open about their political views, but I consider myself a true patriot trying to help the American people and Obama to get our democracy back.

I have started carrying extras because people say they like it and then they love it when I give them one too!

For example, I had a long conversation with a young woman, my daughters age, working at a tapa restaurant in Palo Alto who was so depressed about so many issues that concern us all, and by the time I left, she was smiling and hopeful, as I explained to her that she was not helpless, that through the power of our vote and by working together with Obama we could change the world, I then gave her my button and you should have seen the look of hope -- the light that shown in her eyes!

Wear your buttons everywhere you go and order extra and pass out the Hope!

LOL = I can't get over how mad he is that I spend all my time reading and writing and fighting for Obama. He's a HUGE sports fan, and curses the other team his is playing all the time. I try to compare the passion he has for his teams to my passion for Obama. As hard as I try, he just don't care. he thinks his vote doesn't matter. I will, however, continue to be involved as well as my daughter who I hope will make a valuable contribution one day. Right under the picture of Senator Obama sporting blue jeans, is another story that is, I think, emblematic of our current political environment.

Republican Representative Vito Fosselli of New York admits he has an illegitimate child through a 3 year adulterous affair -- he admits this because he was stopped for drunk driving on his way to visit his illegitimate daughter and he told the police what he was doing. How many stories like this need to break before all of us realize that everybody is an imperfect humanbeing, even Republicans? How many stories like this need to break before all of us realize that the so-called "family values" spin of the GOP is exactly that, just spin?

This Republican family-values man was arrested for drunk driving on his way to visit his 3 year-old daughter who is the product of an adulterous affair. Those are some great family values, Rep. Fosselli. I hope others are not following your moral example.

Camp Hillary is rejecting the new plan floated today by Michigan Dems that would seat the delegation by awarding 69 delegates to Hillary and 59 to Obama.

Hillary spokesperson Isaac Baker emails over this:

"This proposal does not honor the 600,000 votes that were cast in Michigan's January primary. Those votes must be counted."
This is hardly surprising, since the proposal gives Hillary a 10 delegate margin -- a significant cut from the 18-delegate margin of victory she enjoyed over "uncommitted" (Obama wasn't on the ballot) in the Michigan primary.

I heard something interesting yesterday though I can't remember the source.

So, Clinton is now destroying her family's legacy, tearing her party to pieces, and burning political bridges left and right. She is delusional but she has to know she's a long shot (this is a delusion -- she has NO shot) and she also has to see the damage she's doing, at least to herself. Especially with the recent offensive racial remarks that are based on fabricated "facts".

So WHY is she still doing it? The hypothesis was, she is being forced to. Remember that the Clintons have rich, influential, powerful, corrupt, slimy friends in droves. EG Peter Paul - forget his case, the fact that such a nasty guy was a Clinton BFF should at least give people pause.

Anyway, you think those people gave her campaign & Bill's library millions to see her QUIT? Of course not. Those people do not give a WHIT about the democratic party or the Clinton family name. So perhaps they are strongarming her into pulling Every Possible Trick In The Book, not leaving one opportunity on the table, no matter how low and nasty it is.

Senator Obama and his supporters believe that every vote has to be earned and not simply taken for granted. I believe that is why Senator Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee in all but official name.

It seems that some others (notably Senator Clinton) thought that votes don't need to be earned. It also appears that Senator Clinton and her campaign don't think that actual votes earned mean anything and should be ignored.

Senator Clinton's campaign is the one trying to get the superdelegates to ignore that actual votes cast. It is not going to work, though. Senator Obama will be the Democratic nominee and he will be the 44th President of these 50 States United of America, her territories and possessions.

For someone so smart, so savvy, so tough, Sen. Clinton is very stubborn in all the wrong places.

Just because she says she's gone, doesn't really mean she's gone...

For reasons known only to her, she simply is unable to accept that this nomination is not within her reach. She will attempt to climb over, under, around or through the rules to get to the nomination.

Failing that, she will attempt to dismantle the rules and the Democratic Party along with them. Maybe "obliterate" would be a better word.

There is an itty-bitty part of me that feels sorry for her. But then she goes and says this

Sadly, I believe that the Clinton's think they can do anything they want and get by with it. Their history in the Arkansas Governor's office and the Presidency shows that they got by with a lot!!! And yet, after it all, Bill still had a really high job approval rating and Hillary came into this campaign as the likely nominee.

Why else would she and her campaign do everything they've done during this campaign except that she thought that it wouldn't matter because we all would stand by them just like before. After all, they are the saviors of the Democratic party, aren't they??!! (tongue in cheek)

MI has the largest Muslim population in the country (close to 400,000). Those people will take no offense at Barak's middle name.

MI has 15% AA

MI has similar demographics to that of Wisconsin which Barack won deciseively!!!!

So....WHY should MI be seated?? And if they are.. why does it have to be a disadvantage to Barack? I believe he should not make any concession on FL or MI. This will be only the first of many demands and they should not be that accomodating to HRC.

I lived in Michigan for 2 years. I know how the demographics very well. Honestly, I'm not so sure Hillary would have won at all. To turn down a 10 delegate prize for a "winning" what was basically an exhibition game is just stupid.

Does she really think that "uncommitted" is just another name for Barack Obama and all of his supporters actually participated in what they knew was a bogus election.

Check out these words:

"I don't give a dime about [Sen. Clinton] gas roll-back plan. It's not going to do us any good in the long run and when Obama came out against that - that's what I'm looking for. I have already gotten both books in paper back for myself and audio cd for my grandma. But I really think people getting to listen to Barack Obama's book through their ipod would be a great way to get people to know his literature. Dreams of My Father was an amazing book and so is Audacity of Hope. I read them both but plan to go through them again by listening to a chapter here and there over the months during my commute to work and such.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't voters in Oregon now voting? Isn't this time to get on the phones, call them and get out the vote for Obama.

Also, isn't there another election next week in West Virginia and one the week later in Kentucky? Isn't it time to be on the phones to those two states and narrow Clinton's lead in both of them.

Just remember, the very best thing for this campaign to do to unite the party is to win another 125-150 of the 217 delegates remaining, so that any deal proposed by Clinton on Florida and Michigan can be accepted and those delegates seated without impacting the Obama lead.

Don't assume anything, this is not over yet. So go for the gusto and make calls. The sooner the delegates are won, the sooner everyone can turn their sites on November.

Gerry not just that but they can vote by mail from now until May 15th. Call them and use this Link, ask them for their zip code to find their ballot drop location or place to mail it to. Obama should be able to do well in Oregon if we support him there. Its an argument you should slip by even to "not interested" folks before you hang up.

Dropped off 4 ballots for Obama today. One other thing you mention when you call people in Oregon is they can mail their ballots OR drop them off at certified places. That way they are SURE their vote arrives as they intended.

Today my brother, living in Central Oregon, handed in his Oregon ballot for Obama. He said the ballots were mailed out from May 2 - May 6 and people have to 8PM May 20 to get to get the ballot in (via mail or various drop off locations - courthouses, some libraries, etc.)

I would hope that Barack (unless he knows of a boatload of SD endorsing, should plan on another trip to Oregon. I would hope he would visit Oregon State University (in Corvalis,OR), besides a Portland appearance.

My brother (who normally would vote for Ralph Nader) thinks that the over 50 women he meets are still leaning to Hillary, even though they may be strongly against the war in Iraq.
Barack may need to win OR by 25% to compensate for the expected loses in WV and KY.

It would make less sense to visit OR later on, since most people will have already voted.
Does anyone know of any plans? Nothing is posted.

A friend of mine just told me that yesterday, US senator Robert Byrd (the one who carries around the constitution everywhere) saw Barack and told Barack that since he was getting pretty old, he wanted Barack to carry the torch for him in defending and upholding the constitution.

Senator Robert Byrd is an uncommitted superdelegate. I am hoping he endorses Senator Obama. Senator Byrd is the 4th or 5th Senate librarian in our Country's history -- and having difficulty finding someone to succeed him in this important task. Senator Byrd is the keeper of the rules and traditions of the Senate. He also spoke out against the war in Iraq and begged his fellow Senators to WAIT! He suffers from Parkinson's and often looks like he is in a great deal of pain, but I don't think he will quit until someone agrees to become the new Senate librarian.

More than 40 years ago, Senator Byrd was a part of George Wallace's failed Presidential bid (the segregationist bid), but Senator Byrd has rejected this past. For decades, Senator Byrd has had an excellent voting record on civil rights.

There would be a true poetic American symmetry about the longest serving Senator (Senator Byrd) who is also the keeper of the Senate's traditions and rules endorsing Senator Obama for the Presidency -- it would be a moment to be woven into the tapestry of America, forever.

I do hope Senator Byrd does this!

Hillary Clinton's message to AA's is clearly- Get in line. If you don't like it, tough. I have the WHITE VOTE, white people's votes COUNT more! The SUPERDELEGATES need to wake up, or take off their capes, because obviously they are not minding the store. This woman is single-handedly destroying the party. This campaign ceases to amaze me. He definitely has the best and the brightest on his team. ITUNES. How genius is that? Be prepared for some major copy cat behavior. Which brngs me to this. I have only visited HIllary Clinton's site twice. The first time about a month and half ago out of unbridled curiousity. And again last night after hearing them talk about her exploratory committee anouncement. Well a month and a half ago her website was very frenetic. NOt at all streamlined. NOW it is exactly like ours. THere was an article that said the difference bewteen Barack and Hillary's style is that she is a PC and he is a MAC. His website is like a MAC her's more liek traditiaonl early late 90's style. And then changed it I was. floored. The donation page is identical. The greatest form of flattery is imitation. She has already endorsed him and didn't even know it.

Yes it looks legit, but keep in mind is simply a brief offered for consideration in support of an Appeal to the Supreme Court, the case was not granted certiorari to my knowledge or everyone would know about it. So take it for what it is, a brief in support of a position that was never decided by the high court. Nonetheless, it does offer an interesting insight into the policies of the Clinton administration in Arkansas.

Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

"There's a pattern emerging here," she said.

How is that not race-baiting?

Are African Americans not hard working? Are Americans with college degrees not hard working? And this obsession with race!

And she's wrong, too. Look at Obama's support in these relevant categories over the last six contests, spanning eight whole weeks.

So let's see what Clinton is claiming again -- that "Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

* Obama's support among whites is actually increasing compared to Ohio, Mississippi and Pennsylvania. She lied about that.

* Obama's support among "hard working Americans", which is code for poorer Americans, has also increased over those in previous contests, save for Mississippi, where the under-$50K vote was overwhelmingly black.

* Obama's numbers among college grads is static to increasing. We don't have exit poll breakdowns for education by race, and we can assume North Carolina's huge numbers with "no college" are due to the large African American percentages in the state. But what about Indiana, a state that is whiter (83.9%) than Pennsylvania (82.1%), Ohio (82.9%) and Texas (48.3%)? Despite the demographic disadvantage, Obama actually increased his support among voters with no college degrees.

So how can Clinton be so wrong? Because she's citing an AP-Yahoo News poll from back on May 3rd. Rather than cite actual voter data, she is basing her claims on an old poll taken before the Indiana and North Carolina primaries.

Yup. That's what Hillary Clinton has been reduced to. Ignoring actual votes and cherry picking polls.

Which really, shouldn't surprise anyone. She's already ignored and belittled every state and voter demographic that doesn't support her. So it only follows that since in

Her offices are just now opening here in KY. Obama has had offices open here for almost two months now.....so hence the strong showing...........lol

They are just now getting started. We have an office in Lexington (which there was one in my city of Richmond) but we have been canvassing for about a month now and registering new voters as well. Oh by the way...........we can bring Kentucky home but we will need people to sign up to come in and help :)

You know how I know the tide has turned in this country... at least from this one voice... I am a feminist. You know who I admire, Michelle Obama. She is an amazing example of a strong woman who maintains her female self. She exudes integrity and class. I admire her as a woman. She knows how to fight for what matters in a manner that maintains dignity. Not becuaes she is a black woman or an educated woman or future First Lady, but wow what an example to any woman on this planet. I hope when Barack is done in 8 years she runs!! If you punched your ballot for "uncommitted" in Michigan's Jan. 15 Democratic presidential primary to back Barack Obama, your vote might have essentially gone to Hillary Clinton anyway.
While all eyes were locked on Pennsylvania for the last six weeks, Clinton was quietly amassing delegates in the Wolverine State. And she was rewarded this past weekend with a significant victory at the district conventions.
This development naturally has been overshadowed by her big win Tuesday night in Pennsylvania. But the race for the Democratic nomination wasn't decided then and won't be by the remaining contests -- not North Carolina, Indiana or even Guam -- because the real fight is over delegates. And Michigan remains a key battleground.
On Aug. 25, Clinton will march into the national convention in Denver stronger than most people realize, thanks to her aggressive ground game in Michigan.
Buoyed by party elder support, Clinton seems likely to capture more than 60 percent of the state's 128 pledged delegates, according to an analysis by the Michigan Information & Research Service. Including the 28 superdelegates, which lean heavily in the New York senator's favor, she could win upward of 70 percent of delegates, provided that they're seated with full voting power. That depends on the Democratic National Committee, which punished Michigan for leapfrogging the primary schedule. There is no deal yet to seat the delegation. But the Clinton camp is working overtime to ensure the elected slate is sent. Keep in mind that Clinton won 55 percent to uncommitted's 40 percent since Obama wasn't on the ballot. He has pushed for a 50-50 percent delegate split, but that proposal hasn't gained traction.
It's becoming apparent that Obama should have consented to a revote here. He certainly wouldn't have lost by 15 percentage points or more; polls have pegged the pair in a dead heat. But Obama seemed spooked that Clintonites put forth the plan and the money, so he quashed the do-over last month.
Now Obama is paying the price in delegates, starting with the Michigan Democratic Party's 15 district conventions on Saturday. The Clinton battle plan was flawlessly executed with an eye toward a contested convention.

Their delegate roster is crammed with big names like former Gov. Jim Blanchard and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.
"We wanted to pick people who would be loyal to Hillary, who would commit to her through multiple ballots," Blanchard says.
Michiganders for Obama, a ragtag group of new volunteers, triumphed in turnout Saturday but were steamrolled by the Clinton machine. Obama has proved to be a master of organization, but he made a tactical error not to plump up his skeletal apparatus in Michigan.
As a result, he will almost certainly fall short of the 36 uncommitted delegates selected. Volunteers argued that only Obama supporters should be uncommitted delegates, but they were outmaneuvered. About half of the uncommitted delegates reserved the right to vote for Clinton, depending on whom their unions eventually endorse.
While union officials flatly deny they're in the tank for Clinton, Obama supporters point out that United Auto Workers Legislative Coordinator Nadine Nosal was elected in the 8th District as an alternate Clinton delegate. That underscores the fact that Obama's speech to the Detroit Economic Club last year, calling for higher federal fuel economy standards, went over with labor leaders like a lead balloon.
In May, the party's labor-heavy, Clinton-friendly central committee chooses the remaining 45 delegates, setting up a scenario of more uncommitted delegates switching to Clinton.
Given her narrow path to the nomination, Clinton and her aides have argued that pledged delegates are fair game to flip. Although they've since backed away from such statements, the Michigan delegate conventions show the Clinton delegate strategy is being set into motion. What this could mean is four very interesting days in Denver. Although the odds still favor Obama -- who leads in delegates, the popular vote and states won -- he has to be a bit rattled over two losses in one week.
If Clinton comes out on top in a floor war, we might well look back at the Michigan mêlée as the turning point.

I grew to like you over the last year.

I’ve always thought of you as eloquent, gifted. But dangerously naive.

I couldn’t vote for you because you say we should raise taxes (I’m convinced already pay too much), and you say we should abandon Iraq (I’m convinced would be surrendering a war we must win), and you don’t respect the Second Amendment (I believe should disqualify any politician).

Still, I’ve liked your message of unity and your ability to inspire.

I’ve said if you beat Hillary, you will have done your country a service. But, I’m having a harder time rooting for you.

First came your wife’s comment about being proud of America for the first time — conveniently, right after you started winning primaries. Then came your own words about your grandmother, who is just a “typical white person” — someone with racist tendencies. (I’m a “typical white person,” little makes me angrier than when it’s insinuated that I'm racist.)

Someone at a San Francisco fundraiser asked you why it’s so hard for Democrats to win in rural areas. You said:

“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them … So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them … ”

You’re wrong about why small-town Americans don’t vote for Democrats.

Maybe some of us have moral objections to an immigration system that forces rule-followers to wait decades for legal status, and rewards border-violators with amnesty.

Maybe some Americans go to their church because their pastor is a nice person, because they find love there and are feed the Word of God.

Maybe us simpletons find it harder to be bigoted than all y’all cityfolk. Small towns are where everybody knows your name, how hard you work, if you pay your taxes, how well you treat your neighbors, how often you volunteer in the community, and whether or not you’re a good parent. People see the content of your character, not the color of your skin.

Maybe small-town folks are capable of thinking and being self-reliant so that the government doesn't have to “solve” everything for us.

To think that superdelegates can foresee the future and endorse the candidate they think will unite the party and increase the chances of winning the Presidency is just far-fetched.

After a thumping in North Carolina and a narrow loss in Indiana, Obama increased his lead. I would like to ask where are those superdelegates?

They have seen the debates, they can check the popular vote, the number of states won, the amount of money raised....why the f*ck are they taking so long to decide? It should be a no-brainer by now.

I too thought Hill would bow out with grace and support our candidate, but that won't probably happen, especially after her recent 'white' remark.

So, SDs, unless you are waiting for a miracle that would take Hillary to November and ending the chances of Dems to win the White House, endorse now. Because, seriously, Jesus Christ has about the same chances of coming back to Earth as Hillary of being the nominee via popular vote.

This iTunes thing is great, and got me thinking, I would like to see more about Barack's vision for improving government through technology as a central campaign issue! What an amazing contrast to McCain.

Facts:
-The Internet revolution (not the Clintons) was largely responsible for pulling our country out of the recession of the early 90s, and Internt/technology business remains one of the most healthy aspects of our sputtering economy
-John McCain's fundamental understanding of technology does not compare in any way to Barack Obama's, which poses a serious risk to this vital sector of our economy
-John McCain does not support net neutrality, which means he would like to see communications corporations (his favorite lobbyists) control whose content gets better access.
-Barack Obama has demonstrated an unprecedented use of Internet technologies in his campaign, through his fund raising, use of youtube, iTunes, social networking, etc. and has, in fact, improved our democracy and opened it up to many people who have never been involved before.
-Barack Obama's 'google for government' legislation shows how technology can be used to make our democracy more honest
-An understanding of technology is CRUCIAL to making government more efficient. It is also crucial to modernizing our healthcare system.

I want to see the campaign hit McCain hard on technology, and his lack of knowlege vs. Obama.

We very much need to appeal to Clinton's supporters in order to unify the party, and this is not the way to do so. Kathleen...I respectfully disagree with you on this and a lot of people who are saying, "be nice." Sen. Obama has constantly been respectful but if you read the various internet blogs, there is a large amount of Clinton supporters who dislike Sen. Obama and his supporters, like us. I just looked at Politico and the garbage coming out of there in regards to blogs is incredible and insensitive to Sen. Obama's message of hope. I, myself, have done battle with a Clinton supporter today who told me that I am the one stealing the election from the one who is the ONLY nominee for president. I should be with the Democrats and vote for Clinton, not Obama. According to her, he is the one breaking the party apart. Even after I told her I was a Republican and Sen. Obama reached out to Republicans many times, she then calls me a "bigot." I've had it!

This is a slow news day for us. I hope something Big is in the works (re. SD), as Pollster John Zogby said yesterday.

Today my brother, living in Central Oregon, handed in his Oregon ballot for Obama. He said the ballots were mailed out from May 2 - May 6 and people have to 8PM May 20 (earlier if mailing) to get their ballot in (via mail or various drop off locations - courthouses, some libraries, etc.)

I would hope that Barack (unless he knows of a boatload of SD endorsing, should plan on another trip to Oregon. I would hope he would visit Oregon State University (in Corvalis,OR), besides a Portland appearance.

My brother (who normally would vote for Ralph Nader) thinks that the over 50 women he meets are still leaning to Hillary, even though they may be strongly against the war in Iraq.
I would guess that the people in OR leaning to Hillary would wait longer before turning in their ballot.

Barack may need to win OR by 25% to compensate for the expected loses in WV and KY.

It would make less sense to visit OR later on, since most people will have already voted.
Does anyone know of any plans to visit? Nothing is posted.

I don't know the demographic stats in KY; but, WV is one of the oldest states population-wise. It is one of the poorest, whitest, under-educated rural states in the union. There are only 2 or 3 smaller universities there, only 2 or 3 small urban areas. It also has a high percentage of women over 65. While I would like to see Obama at least make a token effort there, I can understand the strategy of conceding the state. Let's face it--that's not his base.

They are basically ceding it to her. Barack told reporters today she has an "insurmountable lead" in WV and KY. Today he met with undeclared supers, far more important considering there are more of them then delegates left from primaries.

I agree 100% and believe that doing such a thing would not reflect the new kind of politics and change of the guard in Washington that he so passionately speaks.

He's said this before when answering questions about his VP. I think we're fine, but can expect the media to push the idea. Barack's no dummy -- he'll have his way, but I think he'll go about it in an intelligent, strategic, and respectful manner.

I know this has bee posted before but apparently Weinstein believes that Florida and Michigan should revote and he and James Carville are willing to pay for it themselves. What their hope is is that enough votes will be cast in Hillary's favor that she will have more of the popular vote and thus claim the nomination. Now the race has change again for her. She could care less about the delegates because she knows that there is no chance in hell that she can win that way.

So she changes the rules to so I now lead in the pop vote so that is what should matter to the superdelegates. Last time I checked,and Nancy Pelosi's daughter said it last night on Larry king, the person with the most pledged delegates should get the nomination.

I will also tell you that one of the undeclared super delegates from MI indicated that Barack should come there and talk to them because he would be presently surprised by what he finds. I also believe that since Edwards is out of the race, the vote will be so much closer if not a victory for Barack. Florida may be out of his reach but I believe that if he has time to campaign there, her popular vote lead would dwindle. People know him now. We all know that makes a huge difference. Look at IN.

Andrea Mitchell yesterday said that Hillary Clinton will campaign her heart out for Barack--because that's the only way she'll be able to go back to the senate. This is really interesting. It is particularly interesting to see that the BO contributions are much more representative of the country as a factor of all attributes including wealth, geographical location etc. It would be interesting to see a similar analysis of the contributions that people make on their tax returns that go to "public financing". Public financing in this country is actually not quite public since it requires a voluntary contribution. I stopped checking this box on my tax returns since as a member of th Greens I never got the money back for our campaigns. I was substantially helping to fund the Dems and Reps and didn't like doing this.

It is possible the the BO campaign is a better approximation of public financing than the government's program.

I thank you for your opinion. I would like to tell you mine now if you will listen. I am a white married 21 yrs female age 39 and mother of two ages 21 and 16.

I support Obama not based on race religion or gender but because he relates to me in a way no other canidate has in my adult lifetime. I have normally done the vote for the lesser of the evils canidate and now gladly have the chance to actually vote FOR a canidate. As much as I liked Gore and Kerry even they did not have the impact Obama has in regards to my vote.
I have worked outside the home and also currently a housewife so I have seen it from all sides. I have strong democrat and republican family members and even some racist relatives.
This election isnt so much for me as it is my children and their future. I am uneducated (GED) and we live on a 30k a year income with no security (contract work) which includes no health care as well. We had all this at one time and life was grand as we felt we were going to make it but that all ended in the 90s and has steadily gotten worse. It started after the false promises of Bill Clinton and all the while Hillary supported him every step of the way. McCain is just the same as Bush on way to many policys to count.
I am sorry that you feel that strongly against Obama but in many ways Obama and Clinton have many same policy views just different ways to go about them.
Finally I would like to say that sexsism and racisim is only there if you see it when you look in the mirror. Everything in life starts with one being you and from there its simply step after step to change whatever may be ahead of you in the future..

Who the he!! cares what Wolfson says. Senator Obama is coming off of extensive campaigning against HRC, John McCain and people like Wolfson. Since the opponent refuses to accept the loss, like HRC he too has to meet with SDs and his time has not been wasted. You know I could see if he was on an island some place. He took one day of much needed rest (mistakes when someone is "sleep deprived") and today he met with SDs at which he received a standing ovation. So let's chill out, let the POTUS do his thing; he'll get to WV, OR and KY. Was he suppose to NOT meet with the SDs. Not only that - I believe he's on CNN as we speak. C'mon people STOP the worrying - trust, hope and believe. We have to do our thing and make calls while he's doing his thing. IT'S OUR CAMPAIGN.

He will be tomorrow. Today he needed to meet with Supers. It is not smart for him to still duke it out with Hillary. When he goes to WV it will not be som uch for the primary (although that plays a role) but moreso to get them acquainted with him for the General Election. He is one man; with one body. This about repriortizing. He will be in WV to hold a town hall. I am sure. We'll have to see. Its a 50 state strategy, no reason to break stride now.

I was standing outside my house and saw this guy walking a BIG German Shephard dog. On the other side of the street was a women walking a small wiener dog..it saw the German Shephard and started barking loudly..DEMANING A RESPONSE...and the German Shephard just calmly walked by....

They are not going to talking about how the surge isn't working and it was an idea that McCain promoted as much as Guiliani mentioned 9/11.

They are not going to talk about how a cross demographic (whites, blacks, asian, latinos, native americans) of U.S. voters are supporting Sen. Obama and have been since the beginning of this election cycle, which is why he's over 150 plus delegates ahead of Sen. Clinton.

They are not going to talk about that some of the greatest economic minds (including 2 nobel prize winners in economics) have all endorsed Sen. Obama's economic plans because he's very knowledgeable and McCain isn't!

They are not going to talk about Iraq because Sen. Obama was DEAD ON in his analogy of what was to come if we invaded that country.

They are not going to talk about Sen. Obama's healthcare initiative, which has the best chance of passing with bi-partisan approval. Bi-partisan approval is paramount, which is why Sen. Clinton's plan failed before and why it was rejected by the legislature in CA.

The value of a college education and experience is clearly shown by this election.

Our universities are great places for people to learn to assimilate information and think for themselves. In addition, the atmosphere and diversity of people makes us comfortable with people that are not like us either in appearance or in viewpoint. We all have friends of all races and backgrounds and learn that they are all genuine people with hopes and dreams same as ours!

Thus young people are finding it easier to bridge the racial gap that has existed in the country over the years. I can understand that it is hard for a majority of those that are 65-80 years old and lived through segregation and what was drilled into their brains when they were in school, it must be hard to change their way of thinking about BO being president...but the new generation shows the progress we have made as a nation, they dont care for the color of his skin, more worried about the grey matter in his brain and the opportunity he represents for our generation to get their voices heard.

Also those that never had the opportunity to go to college and make a diverse group of friends, may also have a hard time since they have seen their parents be skeptical of other races and thats what they have learned, having missed the experience to see other people closely and identify how much we are alike than different.

It is these two segments that Hillary is baiting with all her rhetoric..and it is unfortunate since she is dividing the country and bent upon undoing the progress that the new generation is showing...NOT THIS TIME!!! We have rejected such nonsense in the primary and we will reject it in the GE...YES WE CAN!!

Let Hillary and McCain keep sinking lower and lower, we represent the future..and YES WE WILL CHANGE THIS COUNTRY TOGETHER

For any of you callers out that there who are asked about Barack's "inexperience"--I did a little research and it turns out that Obama has more political experience than some of our best, most beloved presidents. He has more experience than the following had when they first ran for president: George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower. The most experienced president we've ever had? The one most historians think is the worst president we've ever had (although he may now have lost this spot to Bush); James Buchanon who was known as "old public functionary" because he had held public office for so long.
So you might remind people that it is judgement, common sense, and decency that determine who makes a good president not political experience. So Hillary's 35 years of so-called experience 'don't mean squat'. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Jamgirl, are you Jamaican? In any case, Barack continued attending the same church for 20 years even though he did not agree with all the views of his pastor, for the same reason each of us goes to church. To worship God and for the love and fellowship of the church community.

I grew up with my brother for over 20 years and he and I having been raised by the same parents, have radically different views.

Do you completely agree with the views of everyone in your life? Do their thinking completely reflect yours on every subject? Common sense and a some independent thinking would have answered your question.

In any case, Barack continued attending the same church for 20 years even though he did not agree with all the views of his pastor, for the same reason each of us goes to church. To worship God and for the love and fellowship of the church community.

I grew up with my brother for over 20 years and he and I having been raised by the same parents, have radically different views.

Do you completely agree with the views of everyone in your life? Do their thinking completely reflect yours on every subject? Common sense and a some independent thinking would have answered your question.

Just because Sen. Obama has been a MEMBER of Trinity Church for 20 years does not mean he sat in the pew for 1,040 Sundays! Duh! I have been a member of my church for several years- but I don't go every Sunday.

In fact there is a long standing joke that many folks are members of the the First Church CME

This is so nice! Back in February I recommended to HQ that they should do this. This campaign really does listen to us.

I also remember fellow bloggers recommending the campaign hire a camera crew to follow Barack around to different events to capture the enthusiasm of the campaign. And viola, GoTV is now a reality.

This is really nice stuff. A campaign that actually listens to the people and executes our recommendations.

I was not able to go to Indiana, due to a car accident that my lill sister was involved in...Instead I stayed here in SD to babysit her 4 small children and make sure she is ok. She is doing well, but is still hospitalized until sometime this weekend...we hope

Obama Camp Faces Major Obstacles In Plan To Help Clinton Pay Off Debt

Top officials of the Barack Obama campaign are privately exploring ways to help Hillary Clinton discharge her debts and pay back the $11.43 million she has loaned her organization, but they are running into two major stumbling blocks.
The first is obvious: the deep and growing animosity of Obama supporters towards Clinton, whom they see as raising issues of race and 'elitism' that will hurt the Illinois Senator in November.
In an interview with USA Today for example, Clinton declared: "I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," citing an AP article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states were supporting me."
The second is less obvious: Mark Penn.
For many Obama backers, Penn, the former chief strategist for Clinton
and head of one of the biggest PR-lobbying conglomerates in the nation's
capital, is the quintessential Washington insider, capitalizing on political
connections to become a multi-millionaire.
The immediate problem with Penn -- whose conflicts of interest plagued the Clinton campaign and ultimately led to his being publicly, if not privately, repudiated -- is that if Obama helps Clinton pay off her debts, a big chunk of those debts -- an estimated $10 million or more -- is owed to Penn.
Consideration by the Obama camp of providing financial help to Clinton would be part of a peace-making process in the event that she withdraws from
the presidential nominating contest.
Under federal campaign finance law, the Obama campaign cannot directly pay off Clinton's debts, or the $11.43 million she has loaned the campaign, because that would violate campaign contribution limits. But if Obama is the nominee, he and his donor base could provide invaluable help to her in raising money through signed appeals, joint fundraisers and by other methods.
The Obama campaign does not want to be identified as having discussions about Clinton's finances. Obama aides used the term "chit-chat" to dismiss any such discussions.
Many of Obama's grassroots and netroots backers appear to be outraged at the thought that the Obama campaign might step in to lend a hand to get Clinton out of a financial hole -- and out of the race -- as was reported Wednesday.

Everyone needs to be on their best behavior until this contest is officially over. The GOP is trying to make sure there will be a permanent split in this party. Every action and word will be used as an argument against why Obama should not be the nominee. Remember, camera phones are out there too, so, don't do anything stupid, please. We need every vote this fall. Don't scare the Clinton supporters away. The last thing this party needs is in fighting. Don't fall for the divide and conquer shinanigans.
