This past weekend, a few Democrats from so-called red states, including Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle from South Dakota, former Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus, and former Oklahoma Congressman Brad Carson,
came to Iowa
and spoke to crowds here about Barack’s appeal to all Americans in every corner of this country, and about his experience bringing Republicans, independents, and Democrats together to accomplish great things.
Today, 268 Iowa Republicans demonstrated this appeal by publicly announcing their intention to cross party lines to support Barack Obama, believing that Barack is the only candidate of either party who can break the gridlock in Washington.
One of these individuals is Monica. She has been a registered Republican her whole adult life, but is now an active volunteer for a Democratic presidential campaign, seeing something new and inspiring in Barack's candidacy. Check out this short video about her:
Are you a Republican for Obama, or do you know someone who is? Talk about it in the comments.

Just thought I would share this information for anyone who wants to support Obama without going broke. I bought a bunch of stuff from
Link
for a rally that we had at my school and I just wanted to recommend it because it's inexspensive, fast and I know people don't have a lot of money to spend on bumper stickers and T shirts. I think we should be able to support Obama without going broke!

Iowa staff and volunteers,
I want to express my appreciation for all your hard work. Iowa for Obama is doing us really proud!!
I am also grateful to Monica and the other 268 Iowa republicans who today publicly demonstrated their commitment to Senator Obama's candidacy. Thank you for taking this courageous step and publicly joining the rest of the grassroots supporters on this journey to change the course of this nation and the world.
I have no doubt that when President Obama is being sworn in January 2009, you can proudly say that you helped Barack and Michelle fight a good and honorable fight and that you have victoriously completed the initial stage of the race.
Thanks a lot Iowa, we in Ohio are learning a lot from your dedication

Monica,
What a great conversion. You are a good voice in the right direction.
Just a thought.....I am not quite finished with his book......"The Audacity of Hope." I come away with the same conclusions you have. Especially, his quiet intelligence. I think the book speeks much louder than public perseption. To me if you want politics as usual than elect another politician. Senator Obama is 'smart' enough to make the right choices for America and instead of the right 'polical' choices. He is intelligent but he makes common sense.
As a former teacher, I am struck by how accurate he has a feeling for the real problems in education. I believe his changes for education would make a great difference. Coming from formal education, (former professor), his emphasis on the importance of education and how to improve the problems is right on.
I hope more women come to see the light as you have.
Than you so very much |

Monica, welcome aboard - glad to have all your wonderful support.
Just wanted to let you know we have some 'Monicas' in the state of TN too! Two weeks ago I was at a Obama08 planning session for east TN and we had TWO die-hard Republican (their words, not mine) women attending.
One will be traveling to SC to work to get Obama elected in that state. She has given just about all the same reasons for her great support to get Obama in our White House.
Good Luck everyone in Iowa!!!! Your work and Obama's victory are in our prayers.
Thank you |

Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle's former office manager(or whatever they are called) is working for Obama, Right? I think that helped Obama's office be as GREAT as it is. They are responsive to Obama's constituents...something that convinced me to back my senator for President. OUR candidate has a powerful army, almost like the followers of say, KISS, Greatful Dead, Ozzy Osbourne, Willie Nelson etc.

I have ALWAYS voted republican but Barack is the first politician that I have seen, at this level, who is willing to run without pac money and this gives me great hope that the process for sending people to Washington might change. It is terrible that our representatives have to spend most of their time raising money to run again, rather than focusing on the reasons we want them to be there in the first place. Barack, make more of this issue! It will win you more support from conservative republicans like me.

Monica Goodling, a previously unknown Justice Department official who served as liaison to the White House, has become a key figure in the Attorneygate scandal. When newly released emails revealed the prominent role Goodling played in engineering the firing of seven US Attorneys, Goodling pled the Fifth Amendment, refusing to testify under oath.
