All best,
Polk Co Women for Obama
Tomorrow is the big day for the Urbandale Fundraising Event/House Party. For more details check the local events page.
I'm very excited, several people have indicated they will be attending and bringing friends. I've even convinced a good friend and registered "R" to come by!
I've also finalized the menu and my car is full of goodies to set-up. Urbandale, Iowa will never be the same.
I'll let you know on Monday the winner of the air hockey competition.
It was super fun at the campaign office last night and as I was leaving it was even better to see an old friend in the parking lot returning from canvasing. Get Ready. . . Get Set . . Get Out The Vote!
Senator Obama:
I'd like to tell you way to go! Excellent job during the final debate. I think you were poised, focused and came off very presidential! Yeah!!!!! Three down and an election to Go! We are organizing big time here in IOWA.
The field offices are making calls and recruiting volunteers. Infact, I plan to be making some calls this evening to solicit volunteers to GET OUT THE VOTE. The country is going to be amazed when this fine tuned grassroots machine unleashes every tool in its "change" toolkit.
This election may be close but history will certainly indicate that it was an election that inspired more people - young and old - to get involve and make a difference.
The current economy seems to be making people nervous.
Words of Encouragement -
- This is not a time to listen to the naysayers. We are strong and we are fighters. Those who know in whom we trust will win! - No weapon formed against you will prosper! No attacks! No insults! No lies! - We know the end of the book and in the in we WIN!
As we all know this is the big one as "Fred Sanford" use to say. I'm confident that Barack will bring home another win as we march toward victory.
As the American public and the world seem to be watching Wallstreet daily and the economy is on everyone's minds, let's remember to be thankful.
We will get through this season. We are tough. We are fighters! We are blessed to be alive!
Okay, okay I know it's been a while since I updated this, but I'm telling you things are really cooking and heating up here in Iowa.
1. Only 5 days until my house - fundraising event.
2. I've gotten several "not able to attends", "a few I've voted already" and two confirmed attendees.
3. I'm very excited to note that the past few days at the WDM - office volunteering has been quite fun. Let's see, I made phone calls on Fri., Knocked on doors Sun. afternoon with a dear friend, and made more calls last night.
4. So many people are excited and they are very supportive. Many are asking for buttons, t-shirts and "yard signs" . . . right now all these items are hard to come by.
Well on a happy note my car is fixed and now I'm in good shape again!
P.S. Stop by the WDM office and help us out and maybe you'll get to ride the horse like I did last night. You have to SEE IT to believe it!
So far I have several invitees confirmed as attending. This is so exciting as the count down begins.
Today, I plan on going to one of the campaign offices to get some T-shirts and buttons to pass out on next Sat. Oct. 18 as prizes.
Also, did I mention we will be having an air hockey tournament! Stay tuned for more updates as planning continues. . . .
Yesterday was also a great day for my business with good sales and foot traffic. I added more names to my "PL". What's a "PL". . . more on that later.
Wow! Great job during the debate staying on the issues! I think Senator Obama was very effective communicating to the people last night. Seems like many more are fired up now for change.
Prior to the debate, I attending a "meet and greet" for Susan Temere who is running for State Representative. She was very knowlegable about the issues and she has a great group of supporters and friends.
Planning continues for my event on Sat. 0ct. 18th. I was able to get some ideas for the menu: veggies, dips, and sliced apples.
I am so excited!! I saw Michelle Obama on the View and she was beautiful and articulate and warm as always. She does not need an image "makeover". And Obama's Father's Day speech was awesome and on point. I am so glad that he is not afraid to take people of all races to task. Absent fathers are a problem in ALL of America. It's so refreshing to listen to such an inspiring man. I am so ready for a President Obama. YES WE CAN!
We are now beginning the General Election Campaign! It is time for us all to organize and energize our campaign, support Barack, and encourage Independent voters to vote for Barack Obama in the General Election.
We have to put the past Primary Election behind us now and hit it hard! Let's gather as a party of Democrats, stop listening to what the media wants us to hear about the supporters who were with Hillary and now flowing over to us. As Hillary declared Saturday, "We are a family!" It is time to act as a family and stick together to accomplish this goal of taking back the White House.
Energize and organize NOW!
This is what I love about this campaign: when Barack says, "It's not about me; it's about you," he really means it.
Yesterday, within the span of an hour, I was contacted three times by the campaign. First, I got a robo-call letting me know about the rally and inviting me to attend (yeah, like I hadn't already inhaled every detail imaginable as soon as it was announced). Then I was called by an Iowa field organizer, making sure I was planning to come and asking if I would be available to volunteer (unfortunately, I can't drop my kids off early enough to get there for the volunteer call). Finally, I received an e-mail from the campaign offering "Pass for Change" preferred seating at tonight's rally for myself and a guest because I've been a long-time volunteer for the campaign.
Now, I'm currently entertaining delusions of grandeur regarding tonight (Maybe I'll get to sit right behind the podium and be on TV! Maybe I'll shake Barack's hand and say something so brilliant that he'll hire me for his campaign on the spot!). In reality, I realize that we might not even get great seats since I know there are people from all over Iowa and even neighboring states heading for Des Moines this afternoon. But it doesn't matter either way. What matters is that all the hard work and worry of the last 15 months is paying off, and Barack is coming home to Iowa to show us the love. It's going to be a good day.
I heard the buzz yesterday morning that the campaign was planning to have Sen. Obama in Des Moines on Tuesday night, and by this morning it was on the front page of "The Des Moines Register." We have to figure out child care arrangements, including getting our oldest son to soccer practice and back, but I will definitely be there. My husband will come along if we can get someone else to help with our boys. I've already read blog comments from people as far away as Wisconsin and Illinois who are planning to drive to Des Moines for the event.
It makes me a little emotional to think about seeing the Obama family back here, just blocks from that campaign office where I spent so many hours last fall and winter. It all started here in Iowa, and we couldn't be more thrilled than to host our next president on the evening when he effectively puts this nomination to bed.
Look for me on the news Tuesday night. I'll be the emotional mom-looking lady with glasses and bad hair.
Write each on an index card and bring it with you on caucus nite--

ATTN TEAM IOWA:
Take AS MANY PEOPLE YOU CAN ROUND UP (preferably UNDECIDEDS) to see this incredible new film opening Christmas Day. It will inspire and motivate people to caucus for Obama; I GUARANTEE it!!!
It's a true story, and here's the film's tag line: "When the nation was in need, he inspired them to give us hope. "
From one of my favorite scenes: "...but my opponent says today is not the day. Well, would you kindly tell me when that day is gonna come? Is it going to come tomorrow? Is it going to come next week? In a hundred years? Never? No, the time for justice, the time for freedom, and the time for equality is always, is always right now! "
I was crying my eyes out. You can read about the movie here-- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427309/maindetails
Oprah produced it...what a coinidence!!! It can also recharge the batteries of the volunteers who've been working so hard...don't miss this opportunity Oprah has given us again. Everything happens for a reason, and timing is everything.
It's also nominated for BEST PICTURE, starring Denzel Washington.
We know what to do. The problem is the lack of a sense of urgency. These kids aren't just some other person's problem, they're all our kids. And things won't change until every child is our child.
What we have is an empathy deficit. We have lost the ability to see ourselves in one another. Fundamentally we have lost the level of care. We need to reclaim that sense of empathy towards each other. We need to realize that I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper, and that there is more that connects us than divides us. We need a leader who challenges us to work together.
Right now in this country, our politics don't match our ideals…Barack reflects all that we've said we wanted: telling the truth, respecting those who we don't agree with. We have to ask ourselves what's holding ourselves back from making real change.
