International Bloggers for Barack
1/3/08
I'm from India and I live in Singpaore.
I have never been interested in an American election but this campaign has kept me on the hook since it started. For the first time that I can think of, there is really hope that Barack can be what not only America, but the whole world needs. The future American president would have a very important role in shaping up the new world and it seems Iowans have just added sparks to rays of hope around the globe. Good luck and best wishes to the thousands of supporters of Barack...your contributions and hard work have deep implications and consequences for the political future of all of us, everywhere !
From among the hundred thousands of admirers of Barack Obama outside the United States.
Cheers,
Suman Lal/

Yes Sam, from the bottom of my heart, I tell you: TONIGHT, YOU CAN BE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! Today, Iowans have shown to all of us round the world what America can be when it chose hope instead of fear.
WE LOVE YOU IOWA!!!
WE LOVE YOU AMERICA!!!
KEEP IT UP!!!

Thank you and congraulations to Iowa. YOU did it. This is an historic moment. I'm in Devon, in the UK, and followed the news on BBC radio, and read this blog via my mobile, through the night. Its a night I'll never forget.
I rarely post, but I read the blog everyday and have come to feel a deep connection to the regulars here - you are beautiful. Thank you to you guys, and to the incredible volunteers, captains and supporters in Iowa. Your, energy, enthusasm and motivation has changed the political map of the world. I know you each represent many hundreds of thousands in Iowa and across the US who hunger for change.
Barack is a spectacular contender. His speech is already a defining moment in US politics.
This victory proves that people coming together can achieve greatness. There are many millions of non-Americans who are deeply passionate about Barack's vision. We are all connected, in myriad ways. Walking up the hill to my local internet cafe, passing by eldely couples at the food market, I saw how the victory you made possible in Iowa has a tangible effect on the lives of my neighbours, friends and family.
So, lets celebrate, and know that hope, care and love can win against power, cynicism and established ways of thinking. And now lets work work work to secure New Hampshire and South Carolina. The eyes of the world are on you now.
Lets work with everything we have to stay positive, to reach out, to inform, and sweep Barack into the White House.

Heartful congratulations to Barack Obama! I am a father of two (young daughters) and live in Helsinki, Finland. It matters a lot who is the president of USA. It affects to other countries.
After too long reign of...well, worse than sub par George W. Bush governance, your country needs man like Obama. You americans would feel more proud of who you are, if you'd choose him for the job. And the rest of the world would welcome you better after losing respect because of Bush's and and his warmongers actions.

Another greeting and congratulatory message comes your way from Sweden, where people are anxious to see an Obama presidency that would bring about a refreshing reflection of the USA's true values of democracy, equality and world leadership after 8 horrific Bush years.
The whole world, including the Nordic states, want someone in office who uses diplomacy first rather than last and exercises restrain on the use of force and waging wars. This value is best represented in the junior senator from Illinois.
Keep it up Americans, you still have NH, SC and a whole bunch of states to persuade to follow Iowa's wonderful lead demonstrating that:
CHANGE IS POSSIBLE WHEN PEOPLE BELIEVE IN AND WORK FOR IT.

You should see th european papers. Figaro, Le Monde, El Pais, Corriere della sera, even those stoic Germans, not to mention the English - folks are really ecited here - front page stories across the continent and TV news magazines featuring biographic profiles across the board.
I'm right nowin Italy and all they are talking about is Barack Obama. I had to peel myself away from the TV to check the pulse of the USA online...
Everyone I've met, bar none, simply says - "It's about TIME!"
Yep. "The fierce urgency of now" is also felt across the Atlantic, my brothers and sisters.
Go Obama '08!
By Odin Today at 7:07 pm EST
Well to be honest I had to look up what 'stoic' means: "one apparently or professedly indifferent to pleasure or pain" according to my dictionary. Im not sure if this is quite characteristic of current German culture, maybe more the diplomatic situation. This diplomatic chill does have its reasons, Germans were one of the first to offer help after 911, they went along to fight in afganistan and are still there with our troops, they were so quick to respond to katrina with transport planes of ready to eat meals and pumping trucks and stuff that they almost had to fly back because stuff like landing rights hadn't been cleared up on our part (how embarassing)... and so on, the only thing they didn't support us on was Irak and history has proven them right on that one, so they feel a little misunderstood. As I posted somewhere else though, I have been living here in Germany for a few years and I have never seen them following American politics this closly. I think the grafiti miral which poped up a few days ago next to the train tracks on my way to work represents the common centiment here. Some wrascle wrote in heuge letters "+++ Breaking news +++ Obama winns US general election. Now its ok to buy Coca Cola again" They are eager to see our better side again.
Lets keep the momentum!
A LITTLE STEP FOR MAN... | Report to Admin Reply
By Chris from Nice, French Riviera Today at 1:58 pm EST
Very dear Iowans, very dear American friends,
Last night, Iowans were caucussing thousand miles away from where I prepared to sleep. I was sure that BARACK would be the winner of this first "political test match". But I could not imagine such a victory. And when I woke up this morning, the first thing I made was to turn on the radio and I heard the news with an extraordinary pleasure. Yes, BARACK had won and it was not a small victory.
So, some very well-known words came to my mind at this moment, these are the words that a US citizen told the world some 38 years ago, when he was the first man to walk on the moon: "THAT'S A LITTLE STEP FOR MAN, A GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND".
Because, let's face it, what OBAMA is making from a few months is going to change the face of the USA, it's going to change the face of the world, it's going to change the diplomatic relations between my own country -France- and yours, theis America I love so much. I want to believe again, like you, in the Great American Dream.
Now, you -the American people from New Hampshire and then the ones from Nevada and the entire US people- must take the same way in the future caucusses and primaries to show the world that America is determined to make happen what should be done. America, "some yearning faces beyond your shores" are looking at you. BARACK, in many speeches, told us "you matter to us, your future is our future" and I heard that very well. I have great hopes in "born-again" relations between our country and mine. I have great dreams in a new US leadership in Europe, not to tell us that the USA does not want Europe to elaborate some political institutions which will make us greater but to work with us in defending our commun ideals among which are freedom, democracy, human rights.
I have great dreams in a new US leadership in the Middle East, to force Israel and the Palestinians to elaborate a peaceful and long-term solution, to renew with Yitzak RABIN's very good peace policy.
I have great dreams in a new US leadership to fight against global warming.
I have great dreams in a new US OBAMA administration to eradicate selfishness and unfair policies.
God bless you all.

Hey everyone...as I said in my last post a few days ago, my wife and I have been traveling across Africa since mid December...we just arrived in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. I have to say that we did not sleep at all last night, waiting for the caucus results from Iowa on BCC World. The results were announced at 03:30GMT, which was about 9pm EST, and we drank lots of coffee in order to remain awake through 3:30am. My heart was racing and my palms were sweaty as the BBC anchor came on with the breaking news....and I shouted at the top of my lungs when she announced Obama was the winner!
All the African satellite news shows on ITV, NTA, East African Television and South African TV have been running the Obama story ALL DAY....lol....I love it. I also caught a FRENCH Obama staffer on TV5 talking to the french people about Obama and his policies...it's been a fantastic day.
Congratulations to Barack, his staff and advisers, his organizers, his rapid response crew, and to all the supporters who have donated time, money, sweat, blood and tears to this movement.
New Hampshire, let's go!!!!

From one Manchester to another.
With New Hampshire's opinion polls now giving Obama Barack a double digit lead over Hillary Clinton, I'd just like to send my support for the Obama '08 campaign. You should know that there are people outside the United States that are hoping to see political real change both domestically and on the international stage.
Keep up the good work.
Your's faithfully,
Paul Johnson.

Hello,
I don't know which way is best to give support to Mr. Obama but it seems to be through this website so here I am.
As a non american irish-french-english, I feel it is not just a prerequisite but a necessity that Mr.Obama gains the full support of all the states of America. As big as the elections might seem to you folks over there, we, on the other side of the atlantic, are eager to see a multi-cultural, young, charismatic Leader of the Free World.
Americans need to realise that they are not just the most powerful people in the world, they are also part of a country through which we live. We Irish all have an ancestor living in the states, and it is the possibilities as well as the freedom that our old cousin America offers to the destitute and the less fortunate that Mr.Obama will wholeheartedly reopen for the rest of the world.
Meallan muilte Dé go mall ach meallan siad go mion.
God's mill may grind slowly, but it grinds finely.
Athbhliain faoi mhaise duit agus slán leat,
Goodbye and a very prosperous new year to you,

Germany's Got a Crush on Obama
By Nicholas Kulish
BERLIN — Germany has developed a serious case of Obama-mania.
Barack Obama's high standing in Germany goes beyond his opposition to the unpopular war in Iraq. The country's sudden crush is bound up with near-constant comparisons here between the young senator from Illinois and President John F. Kennedy Jr. – still admired in Germany and particularly in Berlin.
The Berliner Morgenpost over the weekend ran with the headline, "The New Kennedy." The tabloid Bild declared, "This Black American has become the new Kennedy!" And the headline for the editorial in the Frankfurter Rundschau read simply: "Lincoln, Kennedy, Obama."
"Only a small, informed minority knew about Barack Obama in December," said Christoph von Marschall, Washington bureau chief for the Tagesspiegel newspaper, whose book, "Barack Obama, The Black Kennedy," came out then. He said after the Iowa Caucuses last week, interest in Mr. Obama and sales of the book – which is presently sold out on the German Amazon Web site – suddenly surged.
Mr. Obama's newfound popularity among Germans underscores not only the breadth of his appeal but also the opportunity he might have as president – though far from even his party's nomination – to mend fences abroad.
"There are similarities between JFK's time and today," said Karsten Rossow, 49, of Berlin, who was visiting the small Kennedy Museum by the Brandenburg Gate Sunday, on a dark, snowy afternoon, with his wife. "People are ready for the politics of change."
While the whole world follows American elections, Germans learned to pay particularly close attention because of the unparalleled influence that the United States had as both occupier and protector after their country lost World War II.
Some are reserving judgment. "It's too early," said Udo Schacht, 53, at a train station on Friedrichstrasse, the street where the Checkpoint Charlie border crossing once stood, "to say that he's the new Kennedy."

Australians for Obama
If you go to my profile photo you will see my wife and I holding up the weekends major papers with Barack the main picture and story. The Australian on the right is THE national paper, there is nothing like it in this country, everything else is regional. Bit like NY Times meets USAtoday. Its the picture of this beautiful family. The other paper I am holding is the Courier Mail which is my State of Queenslands big paper. Interesting to note that ALL Australian papers are telling the story of Clintons demise. An article in the Sydney morning herald pointed out most clearly the tricks with the Clinton campaign with crowds in Nashua. An article in mondays Austrailian was titled 'Obama the new Reagan'. I don't think the world is spinning Clintons stuff anymore. The CNN reports are being dropped in the light of overwhelming truth.
My wife and I had a terrible night. We are expecting our first and there were some problems but its is okay now. Bringing in these papers for her was the best thing I could do. EVERY Australians I talk to says 'I really like him, I don't trst her'.
I noticed some bloggers the other day talking about there age as 40 somethings etc. I am 42. I guess you must get to an age where you become cynical and I have to own I have been depressed at the state of the world and it's direction. The actions of the US have largley impacted this. I love my Americamn wife but I have struggled with this whole 'us' moving to America permantly and my son being American. Obama and this movement turns those thouights around 180 degrees.
America, the world is watching and you may just go from being the most hated country on earth to the most revered, again. I heard the chant USA USA at the Iowa victory speech the other night, Previously that chant has made me cringe. Seeing young Americans chant this because of genuine heart felt response to a new page in its history and a UNITED states of America, made me cry.
If you stand up New Hampshire which I am sure you will ... the world changes and I can tell you without a stretch of exaggeration , I AM HEALED.
Dave
GOD BLESS AMERICA

I live in Rio de Janeiro, most people here aren't following these elections closely, but the one's that do strongly support Barack Obama.
One of Brazil's best known musical groups "O Rappa" made a song in honor of Barack's victory in Iowa.

German Green fan of your campaign | Report to Admin Reply

Hi Barack Obama Supporters,
I'm a Member of Germany's Green Party in Munich, I've been watching Barack and his campaign back from June 2007.
I'm very moved by what he stands for, his integrity, his openness. I am convinced he may be a great president, because he can lead by listening.
Not necessary to tell anyone, that I also hope for an America that will have a more diplomatic foreign policy.
Now - I'm moved by how you're campaigning, that you are really bringing together new people throughout the course of the campaign, you mobilize them, you have them spread the work... even beyond the campaign itself, I believe this will have an impact on the communities, where people like in this video find together.
Barack's campaign and message actually made me consider for the first time to go out actively myself. I couldn't make up a plan on how I could effectively adress Americans, the only voter I know is a professor, and I won't try... Also I don't want to make any harm to the campaign as a non-American educating your citizens.
However, this is something new for me, and it has been Barack Obama, his campaign and his message, that has convinced me that one may actually just take action to 'achieve extraordinary things'.
It is you supporters, who live that inspiring example. His campaign is really not about himself.
Best wishes and my prayer for all of you
Christoph

The American Spirit the World Wants to Believe in Again... | Report to Admin Reply
By Jeffrey Ulrich 12 minutes ago
I have lived in Austria, Europe, for most of the tenure of the Bush Administration. I teach English as a Second Language to adults. And of course I've had more than ample opportunity to understand how shocked and horrified Europeans are about what has been happening in America for the last eight years. But what has amazed me time and time again is the way even in the most jaded of European hearts there seems to live an ember of respect, often or hope toward America, largely unspoken, that people are not willing to let die. They hold to it against the actions of the current administration and all of the evidence that this hope is foolish. They hold to it and remember something, and hope that America can be that thing again.
Now as the reports of the Obama movement start to filter across the ocean and take up more and more space in the foreign press, they are beginning to take notice, and I hear people shaking their heads and wondering if it is possible, that if once again America can emerge from a night so dark and become once again a beacon light of hope for the world.
THIS is the America the world wants to believe in again, and I want to thank Senator Obama for saying it:
"... that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope; and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people in three simple words: Yes. We. Can."
Let's go change the world-- It daily amazes me just how true these words just can be. Never forget that what we do here echoes across the world.

So all of You can be sure of the total support of the german people to send this message of hope even farther then the seas which seperates us physical...
