I used to come to this web site so often that I got into arguments with my brother and my father who thought I needed to manage my time better. I may have been a little addicted (acceptance is the first step) but as I had nothing better to do, I kept up on everything Obama. I remember when it first started and my father was skeptical about Baracks chances, and my brother wasnt even registered to vote.
Well I havent been to this site in a long time and I havent written a blog in a long time I found the cure. Do you want to know what it is? I replaced my addiction with an addiction to registering voters.
I joined the Obama Fellowship program were I volunteered and became obsessed with registering voters and recruiting volunteers to register new voters.
THIS IS A GARUNTEED CURE FOR YOUR BLOGGING HABIT......I DARE YOU TO TRY IT!!!
I was going to try to write this clever mock news story about Baracks special interest but im not the real clever type. Im the bottom line type so Ill just get right to it.
The American people are the senators Special interest. His campaign is already financed by the Public.
Senator dont be afraid to change your mind about Public Financing. Your being finance by what we call in church a "Free Will Offering" when the people give because they want to and they give whatever they can.
I think your grassroots fundraising is Campaign Finance at its most Ideal. Further more we all know this is a political ploy by McCain to seperate you from or weaken the mighty grassroots base you have developed.
I agree whole heartedly that money is the root of all evil in politics. However, like most things timing is everything. I find the timeing of Mr. Edwards announcment very interesting. Why didnt he follow his principles from the beginning? Is it perhaps that he hasnt been able to raise the money and garner the support that the other two candidates have?
Also it is possible that the democrats will put themselves at a considerable disadvantage to there republican counter parts by spendingn the 50mil cap in the primary and coming up short in the general election by only being able to spend what is left over.
I also think that this is a non issue for our candidate as his campaign is publicly financed by nearly 350,000 people. I also find it interesting that such a rich candidate with concerns about the poor, would use taxpayer money instead of his own.
I am a opinionated person, even if I dont know for sure I always have an opinion. However belief intails something different. How do you know what a person believes? I grew up in a spiritual house, my father has been a minister for years.....and ive dabbled a bit myself. Anyway there is a scripture that says "Faith without works is Dead". I have told alot of my friends about Obama, actually I bring it up quite a bit to people I dont know, But after months and months of talking, I have become compelled to DO SUMTHIN.
About two weeks ago I went to my first Obama meeting in San Antonio, Tx. It was cool there was a group of about 10 people in a young couples apartment, there was refresments and alchohol and good conversation. We discussed all things Obama, but more than that people begain to ask personal questions and really get to know one another. It is very interesting and very fulfilling to exspand ones circle of acqaintences. Tonight we are going to a oyster bar to watch the debate. Im looking forward to it.
Today for the first time in my 36 year existance....I have contributed to a campaign. Yesterday I went to walmart and loaded up one of those visa cards just to use on the internet and specifically for the purpose of donating to the campaign. Now Im not working right now but ill waste $10 on fast food. I gave five dollars for someone to match and then I pledged five dollars to match someone else. It is just $5 but it was the best money Ive spent in a long time, and I cant wait to give more.
Did everyone see the article in the US today regarding Senator Obama receiving the most donations from the military? That was a good article but there was another article by Jill Lawrence regarding the pride of Black democrats.
I was a little surprised by Dr Willis Legette a political science professor at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. who stated .....
Legette says Obama presents himself as "the black candidate that does this thing that people refer to as transcending race, which really means appeal to white voters at the expense of black interests." He says Obama has neglected health care and schools, and calls his rhetoric "mush."
So I felt the need to write a letter to the Professor with the links of the Senators health and education plans. I also included an article by Theodore Cross from The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education. I hope he responds back to me it will be interesting to see what he has to say. I find it intersting that some older African Americans find it hard to support Obama. I wonder if it is because we as a peoplel are more used to the pro black sharpton or jesse jackson. I keep checking my email for his response.
Heres a copy of my letter and the links:
Dr. Williams, Sir, I read your comments in the USA Today and I thought Id send you this article. As a learned man I'm sure you've read Senator Obamas plan for health care it case you haven't hear it is http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/ and the Senators Plan to improve education. http://www.barackobama.com/issues/education/ We appear to be at a crossroads in this country and to me it is as clear as the choice between Unity vs. Red/Blue state thinking. If I may presume a little, Dr. Williams it seems your generation paid dues for just such a time as this. It is time to collect. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon. I have included the link to the article by Theodore Cross. http://www.jbhe.com/obama1.htmlMichael T. Cushman Jr.
Has anyone been paying attention to any other interesting candidates running in 08 for the senate. I ran across a article on the political satirist Al Franken running to replace a republican for a senate seat. Check out one of Als statements.....
Al says:Republicans like to run by saying that government doesn’t work. Then they get elected, and they prove it. It’s gotten to the point where the Democratic Party is both the liberal party AND the conservative party in this country. There’s nothing conservative about record deficits. There’s nothing conservative about billions of dollars in earmarks. There’s nothing conservative about using taxpayer funds to reward your campaign donors. There’s nothing conservative about refusing to pay attention to waste, fraud, and contract abuse in Iraq. And there’s certainly nothing conservative about running out of money so that we can’t invest in things like early childhood education and health care to build a stronger workforce and a stronger America.
Ive also been wondering, with all the investigations going on in washington, there is something I want someone to look into. After 9/11 the airports were closed for a while, however there were a couple of planes that were allowed to take off. Now if this is the liberal fabrications of a democrat who would do anything to destroy the bushes.....then forget about it.....but is there any truth that bin ladens family was allowed to leave the Us after 9/11.....who authorized those planes to leave, and who was on the planes. Has anyone ever looked into this?
Ok enough rantings and conspiricy theories for today.....
