Senator Joe Lieberman has said he will not vote for the public option in regard to health care reform. I have gone to his contact page on the Internet and have left a comment calling him arrogant. Arrogant that he would stop millions of Americans from having affordable access to health care, when I am sure he has never had to worry about it for himself or his family. It is an arrogance that shows he is so out of touch wiith the people of this country that he should not be asked for advice or counsel, when he apparently has little to offer, at least on health care reform.
Senator Lieberman has said he does not want the American government to go in this direction, but for sixty years or so the Senate has done nothing in this regard except for Medicare. Now is not the time to listen to fools, and this man is being one of the biggest. Health care reform with the public option must be passed if we are going to call ourselves a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Big business has gotten away with murder of the American workforce for a long time. Unfortunately, it appears that these murders have been sanctioned by our own state and federal governments.
For the past thirty years I have been bothered how I have had to relinquish my rights as an American citizen in order to be taken seriously for a job application. It is not only big business such as the corporations that do this on a routine basis, but also the state and federal goverments.
American citizens have to sign away their inherent rights to privacy by allowing for a credit check, a backgound history check, etc. The worst part is that it is all black and white, and does not consider shades of gray, such as someone having to declare bankruptcy because of catastrophic illness and no insurence. If anything negative is reported, the applicant is not given recourse to defend himself/herself. Dislike the following phrase all you want, this is an autocratic relationship.
To make a loathesome situation worse, American job applicants also have to sign away any right to vindication if someone has slandered them. But even worse than this, the American job applicant will never even know it happened because he/she will not be called for clarification. They most certainly will not be selected to continue the appllication process. Below is a paragraph verbatum except for the company name from a major American corporation that uses this in their job application process. The job applicant must sign this to continue to application process.
I hereby release _______, and those providing information to ______ pursurant to this authorization, from all actions, claims and liabilities of any kind arising from the provision or use of information about me and I hereby waive any rights I may have to pursue such actions and/or claims.
Where is the American judicial system that permits this? American workers are in a state of coersion to sign these statements because they have to live, because they have families to provide for. This is autocracy. This is an autocraqtic state. It must not be allowed to continue if we are to call ourselves a democracy of the people, by the people, and for the people. At present, we have an autocracy of the corporations, by the corpoations, and for the corporations with the blessings of state and federal governments. This current state of affairs must not be allowed to continue, and those who practice it must be called to account for it.
For those senators who voted to remove the amendments to E-Verify, these senators should not be voted out of office but impeached for incompetence. This measure, in effect, supports illegal immigration, which is against the law, and it has been proven time and again, amnesty only brings more illegals to our country.
I have a serious question for these senators: What's your big pay-off? Again, you have turned your backs on your unemployed constituents and all Americans everywhere. If you think these actions go unnoticed, you are wrong. I can think of no more hypocritial action that what you have pulled here. There is a payback. The American people will not sit idly by while you pillage and plunder the job market with people who should not be here in the first place, and leave the door at the border crying for all takers to come on in.
In order for all Americans to be covered with accessible and affordable health insurance, the public option is the only way to go. A co-op will leave too many Americans without insurance coverage, and forcing companies to furnish their workers with health insurance will leave American workers enslaved in bad jobs because if they quit they will lose thier health care, not only for themsleves but for the entire family.
The public option will keep the insurance companies more honest, and workers will not be enslaved to bad jobs where there is mobbing and bullying, which, by the way, leads to serious physical and mental injury, not to mention an unacceptable workplace.
The public option is the only way to go if we are going to really look to the betterment of all Americans.
In regard to American Health Care Reform, if there is no Public Option, there is no real reform in American Health Care Reform. It will be business as usual, as indicates all the dollars lobbyists and the health industry have spent on the Senate.
The bottom line is this: without the public option, there will be plenty of good reason for airing out Senate seats in the next elections.
Senator Max Baucus presented his Health Reform remake today that leaves the most desperate—and the most needy—without access to health insurance, although all Americans will be obligated to buy health insurance by law. The remake says that the poorest who do not have the means to buy health insurance will be exempt from the fine imposed on those who refuse to buy it and have the means. This is not good enough. EVERYBODY should be covered—no matter what their financial status.
The poor man or the poor woman is in as much need as the rich man or the rich woman anywhere, and to deny access to health care to anyone because of lack of financial means is immoral. In this sense, this country has lost its way, its sense of right and wrong. Preference has been given to greed and indifference toward one's fellow man.
This country has a mindset that might is right. Affluence means power, and it is used unjustly and cold-heartedly toward the American people. If all Americans are not covered in the health care remake, then it is a failure of garantuan proportions of the American government and the American people.
There are many questions how the federal government can implement citizen verification for health care access. Currently, illegal immigrants go to hospital emergency rooms, and health insurance customers pick up the tab through having thier insurance premiums increased. At this point there is nothing to guarantee the American tax payer that this same scenario will not be repeated with the reform now proposed in health care, although President Obama has said that illegal immigrants will not be covered. But there is an easy way to resolve this issue.
All countries have accounts with each other, and if they don't, then they can be created. When an illegal immigrant walks into the emergency room—and it must be an emergency—the illegal is attended to and the illegal immigrant's government is sent a bill for the illegal immigrant's hospital bills and his/her imminent deporation. The same would hold true for Americans who are illegal in other countries.
The benefits of this arrangement keep the issue simple to resolve, and emergency assistance is not denied anyone. Another important factor to be considered is this: it will compel the governments of Canada and Mexico to secure their borders, and take some of the pressure off the United States border patrol.
Mr. President,
The Republican party, the infamous GOP, will not compromise with you on anything. If you have the votes in the Democratic Congress, then tell the GOP to go hang itself and pass health care reform with the public option.
In my opinion the GOP is the hand-maiden to large corporations and shifty lobbyist. They have declared unabashedly that they do not wish you success. It is time (long in passing) that you rub their noses in the "pooh" they have spread across the country regarding health care reform.
Bi-partisanship with the GOP will only work if you do everything their way. Forget them. They aren't worth the effort.
Having listened to news reports about the Tea Party Express, this group of people who use such a patrioctic reference for their name are nothing more than closet bigots because of President Obama's racial heritage. This is the true driving force behind this movement. Nobody wants to be labeled a bigot—one who discriminates against others for no valid reason—because there are legal implications. So they hide behind false fronts.
From the moment that Medicare became a very popular government-run program and accepted by Americans, the Tea Party Expresss argument of government intervention and government-run health care is debunked. Quite frankly, in my opinion, this group of white hypocrits is the shame of the nation that knows nothing about this country, and has very sketchy notions of American Revolutionary History.
I hope my president will eat this group alive. I hope he will unmask this group for the frauds they truly are. The American people deserve to know. No matter what President Obama does, this group will ridicule him. The Tea Party Express needs to be put in its place of dishonor for the bigoted frauds they truly are..
Health Insurance Reform is business as usual without the public option. I was very disappointed to hear President Barack Obama say in Grand Junction, Colorado that the public option is a sliver of the whole. Looking at the big picture, it may not be the main part, but 40-50 million Americans without any kind of access to quality health care is a large limb, not a sliver.
Blue Dog Democrats should back President Obama with the public option. The large health insurance companies are jaded, and care nothing for people. They only want to make more money at the expense of the American people.
Greed and indifference have to stop. We have to return to being a nation of people who care about people. Enough of the Republican mentality of winning any way possible — even when it comes to nominating incompetent people who can win an election, but cannot run a country. The Republicans excel at this. It happened with the Bush campaign, and the McCain campaign. Does anyone really think Sara Palin could handle the executive office responsibly? Not me. I shudder to think about it.
The public option is too important not to be included in Health Insurance Reform. Blue Dog Democrats need to back the president. Anything less, and they should be considered traitors to their party.
The Associated Press led with this headline today on Yahoo! Bill Clinton rewarding N. Korea for bad behavior: Bolton. Since John Bolton served as ambassador for the George W. Bush administration to the United Nations, this administration through its do-nothing diplomacy sat back while North Korea assembled an atomic bomb, and now works on long range missles. Alleging that the United States does not deal with rogue states, as Mr. Bolton describes North Korea, he apparently feels nothing for the two American journalists imprisoned there. It apparently does not bother him that the two women have been sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. And this is the reason Bill Clinton has gone there: to secure their release.
In my opinion, Mr. Bolton has no credibility, and should sit down and shut up. He was obviously a failure under ex-President George W. Bush, but followed through with the ex-president's mediore directives for the status and paycheck. How dare he pipe up now when real efforts are being made to clean up the past administration's colossal mess.
Sometimes I think Blue Dog Democrats should just change political parties and call themselves Republicans. The government insurance option should be as President Obama wants it, and not as some insurance co-op that has been included in the bill instead, as I understand it.
Since when has everything in this country had to be profit driven? Whatever happened to non-profit? Acessible, affordable health care is so basic. Why do there always have to be corporate vultures lurking behind every stone, and intruding into everything as if they were entitled?
The Republicans have said that they have nothing to offer, and do everything to misinform and hurt health care reform. When they practice this evil—and it is an evil— they hurt every American in this country. Fearmongering Republicans who ran this country into the ground now want to destroy anything that will make this country better, that will make the American people more secure. The Republicans' own self interest comes before the interest of the American people, before the needs of the nation.
Blue Dog Democrats: wake up. If you mess up health care reform, your constituents will vote you out of office, and the American people will ridicule you all the way back to the end of the unemployment line, which is quite long by the way.
If the Republican party continues its current agenda, I would not be surprised to see this party become extinct in American politics. It obviously creates nothing and serves only the elite, which is not very American by the way.
President Barack Obama had a town hall meeting today sponsored by AARP. At this town hall, the President explained exactly what health care reform was and why it has to be. President Obama took questions fromt he audience and answered all questions well.
Immediately following the AARP sponsored town hall, CNN allowed Republican Representative from Virginia Eric Cantor to refute President Obama. Representative Cantor did not refute specifically any one item that President Obama said at the town hall. Republican Representative Eric Cantor went on his own spiel of degrading health care reform by reiterating Republican misinformation and flat out lies. In part, I blame the CNN reporter for not forcing the Republican Congressman to stick to specifics of the town hall.
One thing for sure: I can have no respect for the Republican Congressman from Virginia whose sole purpose was to browbeat President Obama and health care form. At the same time, Republican Representative Eric Cantor offered nothing, and for sure, offered the American people nothing but Republican partisanship at its crassest level.
If small business will not be required by law to offer health insurance to its employees, then there has to be a government option included in health care reform. The small business employee cannot be left hanging in the wind. As for not requiring large corporations to instate health care insurance for its employees but reimburse the government, then there has to be a government option. Without it, the American people are no better off than they are now. As for corproate reimbursement, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. This is a prime example of making simple concepts complicated through bureaucratuic mismanagement.
The bottom line is this: the American people will not tolerate political or lobbyist shenanigans from its elected officials. You can bet that the American people will be closely scrutinizing how their elected representatives vote on this issue. Blue Dog Demograts had better wake up, or they will pay electoral consequences.
The Associated Press said today Democrat says health overhaul needs GOP to pass. What a headline. What a disgrace! Those Democrats who are stalling health care reform run a great risk of being run out of office, preferably before their terms end.
The American people already have to deal with flat out lies and gross misinformation the Republican party is putting on the airways. Now there are Democrats who are looking out for their own, rather the interests of the American people. Be forewarned: those Democrats who stall or hamper health care reform will be derided, ridiculed, and scorned. The American people have not one iota of tolerance for political shenanigans from either political party.
Faltering Democrats: clean up your act and get on board, or you will surely be left behind.
Senator Mitch McConnell on CNN today. Incredible. What country does he think he lives in? How much does he think oridinary Americans earn to be able to deduct anything from their taxes ("like corporations") when costs for health care come up front?
This man is playing politics all the way, though he implies he is thinking of the American people. In a pig's eye.
Democrats have told President Barack Obama that they are going on vacation and health care reform can wait until they get back. How dare they. Health Care Reform is so important to the American people and to the health of the economy, and these arrogant politicians, who are solely in Congress because the Aemrican people voted them in, have told the President of the United States to suck it up.
The Republican party has already made its bed, and I hope they lie in it for a long, long time. However, Democratic Congressmen and Democratic Congresswomen who act like spoiled prima donas need a reality call of the severest order. If Congress goes on vacation BEFORE acting on Health Care Reform, I sincerely hope the American people make this vacation a regretful one for them.
What Democrats needs to realize is that the Amerian people are fed up, yes, fed up with bad government. If I had my way, I would take away all Congressional perks and insurance and make the members of Congress use what the American people use. I can guarantee you that there would be some of the best, well-read policies enacted to ever come out of Washington under any administration. Hmmm. Maybe the American people need to show Congress who is boss.
