Governor Howard Dean returned to the great state of New Hampshire today to rally students at UNH – Durham. UNH – Durham is the largest university in the state of New Hampshire, so the student population has the potential to play a deciding factor in this upcoming election. With early voting over, students in New Hampshire can still register and vote on Election Day through same day registration. Governor Dean encouraged all the students in attendance to make their voice heard by showing up and registering to vote.
Also appearing at the event were two young women who recently graduated from college themselves – Molly Shaheen (Jeanne Shaheen’s daughter) and Kathleen Shea-Porter (Carol Shea-Porter’s daughter). Governor Dean urged students to not just vote for Senator Obama, but to vote for the whole Democratic ticket, all the way down including former Governor Shaheen and Congresswoman Shea-Porter. Barack will need help as President, and we need to keep New Hampshire blue to give him the Senators and Congressmen he will need to get our country back on track.
Dean told the students assembled that they were taking part in a historic election – one that will witness a passing of the torch -
In many ways this election is similar to the 1960 election between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. Kennedy was running on a promise of hope and change while Nixon was running as the status quo…and we all know what happened in that election and Kennedy’s historic inauguration.
Dean wrapped up by reminding students what a great country we live in and urging the UNH students to knock on doors and make phone calls and do everything they can to help the Democrats win. You can help too. Find your local office. Sign up to Get Out The Vote. This is OUR TIME.
Today, Hillary Clinton returned to New Hampshire for the first time since her rally in Unity with Senator Obama back in June. She was welcomed with open arms by raucous crowds which greeted her in Manchester and Pelham. With the election only a week away, Hillary Clinton came to the Granite State to let everyone know why she is working so hard to elect Senator Obama to the White House.
Her first event was at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester. She was introduced by former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen who is running for Senate against incumbent John Sununu. To get our country moving on the right track, Senator Obama will need Jeanne Shaheen in the Senate, so help elect her and Barack Obama this last week here (link to GOTV signup).
Hillary spoke passionately about the issues affecting our country – lack of access to health care, high energy prices, failing schools, and the sense of malaise sweeping the country due to the financial crisis. Hillary told the Granite State that a vote for McCain is a vote for more of the same and four more years of George W. Bush. She closed by urging all of her supporters from the primary to go out and work and vote for the Democratic ticket up and down the ballot. Thank you Hillary for coming!
With only one week left, we need your help in changing the direction of this country. Help keep New Hampshire blue by volunteering with us. A couple of hours of your time will help Senator Obama as he works to bring the change we need.
Richard Danzig, former Secretary of the Navy under President Clinton, visited our Portsmouth Campaign for Change office to meet and talk with Seacoast veterans. Danzig, who supports Senator Obama, was in town for the commissioning of the USS New Hampshire.
Danzig spoke to the veterans and other volunteers in the office about the connection between working on a political campaign and serving in the military. He said that both offer a chance for two people who have never met each other to have an instant bond and sense of comradery.
Danzig, who was in Ohio and Virginia recently, said that New Hampshire is one of the most important states in this election. With his words of encouragement, the volunteers and veterans headed off to knock on doors and make phone calls. He encouraged everyone to sign up for a GOTV shift.

Carol of Wolfeboro has been volunteering with the Obama campaign since last fall. Carol first heard Senator Obama speak at the 2004 Democratic National Convention and was inspired by his politics of hope. When asked why she supports Senator Obama, Carol said:
I feel that he has the ability to bring people together to work for the common good of everyone in the country, limit the influence of special interests in Washington and put the interests of the American people first.
Carol is making a difference in this campaign by making time every weekend to go door-to-door for Senators Obama and Biden. Rain or shine, sun or snow, you will find Carol talking to her neighbors in Southern Carroll County. When Carol is not knocking on doors, you can be sure to find her at a Wolfeboro phone-bank during the week. Join Carol this weekend at one of our Southern Carroll County canvasses! Two weeks ago, Barbara from Londonderry responded to an e-mail about volunteer opportunities and ventured into the Derry office to see what she could do to help out. Excitedly, I showed Barbara around the office and told her about our efforts to reach out to undecided voters in her community. Despite my enthusiasm, Barbara was somewhat hesitant about jumping on the phone and talking to people she didn’t know. “What am I supposed to say?” she wondered. “Well, why are you here?” I asked her. After thinking for a second, this is what Barbara shared with me:
I am a grandmother and every time I look at my one year old grandson I know that this is his future. I don't know what I can do, but it makes me want to do something.
“Say that on the phone” I responded, “share with your neighbors why you know this election is so important.” Barbara then got on the phone and spoke with senior citizens in Londonderry about why she knows we need to elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden this November – to put our economy back on track, to save social security, to bring our troops home from Iraq and to ensure a better future for her grandson.
Barbara came back to the office the next day and has come back many times since. It is people like Barbara who are truly making the difference in Londonderry, in New Hampshire, and all across the country.
If YOU donn’t know where your Local Field Office is yet, click HERE. Whether it be calling some of your neighbors, going door to door, helping with data entry or bringing dinner down to the office – there is a way for you to help out. There are only 5 weeks left before New Hampshire voters go to the polls to cast their votes. I hope that you’ll join Barbara and the millions of volunteers across the country who are doing their part to bring the change we need to Washington!

The UNH Students for Barack Obama group organized a fantastic get together in the Hubbard Hall Rec Lounge to debate, discuss and most importantly, watch the first debate between Obama and McCain. The night started off with some quick blasts of U2's "Beautiful Day" and Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and the students began to get themselves good seats near the TV. The UNH Students for Barack Obama group were handing out stickers and posters as well as literature to inform the independent and maybe even the Republican voter who might be moving through the lounge.
Once the pizza arrived, everyone became more and more excited and Morgan, the SFBO President, officially started the event by briefly introducing herself and discussing the importance of the debate. After a great debate from Senator Obama we closed up with a few words on how to register to vote.
After the next debate party was announced at MUB Food Court at 8:30 on Thursday, October 2nd, everyone dispersed thinking our man Barack had done enough to win. After the pizza disappeared, everybody made their way home in the torrential rain. Sign up for New Hampshire Students for Barack Obama.
Thanks to our guest blogger Marek, who attends UNH and is a big Obama supporter!
This past weekend was a special weekend in New Hampshire. That is because it was the first weekend of Hillary Sent Me, a new initiative from Hillary Clinton to help out the Democratic ticket in swing states across the country. Supporters from all across the state and even some of our friends from neighboring states came together Saturday morning for a conference call in which Senator Clinton instructed everyone to go out there and knock on some doors!
After the words of encouragement from Senator Clinton, the office emptied out as everyone went to knock on doors and spread Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton’s message of change. You see, Senator Clinton has been one of Barack’s biggest supporters since the primaries ended – and she wants to make sure everyone knows that she supports the Democratic ticket 110%. Join New Hampshire for Obama-Biden! As Senator Clinton said at the Democratic National Convention:
Whether you voted for me, or voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose. We are on the same team, and none of us can sit on the sidelines. This is a fight for the future. And it's a fight we must win together.
On Sunday we were honored to have Ann Lewis, a close friend of Hillary and Bill Clinton on hand to kick off the canvass. Ann Lewis has been involved in Democratic politics for many years and encouraged everyone to work hard these last 40 days before the election, and rest afterwards.
The stakes are too high to sit this one out. Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and the country need your help. New Hampshire is one of a small handful of states that are truly up for grabs. With your hard work we can win New Hampshire and win the White House.; Please come in and talk to your local Organizer about getting involved. To find your Local Field Office click HERE. Yes we can!
This past Saturday we had a very special guest visiting us in New Hampshire – former Maine Governor Angus King, who was the Independent Governor of Maine from 1995 to 2003. King, who just recently endorsed Senator Obama, voted for President Bush in 2000 and 2004. In endorsing Senator Obama, former Governor King said:
Obama will put America on the path to energy independence and provide immediate relief for families hard hit by the high cost of gas and home heating oil. The Obama-Biden ticket offers the bold vision and common sense solutions we need to get our country back on track.
While in New Hampshire, former Governor King attended the fabled Deerfield Fair where he walked around and talked with undecided voters about why as an Independent voter he supports Barack Obama and Joe Biden. To join New Hampshire for Obama-Biden click HERE He also attended the annual Rockingham County Democratic Dinner where he got 3 standing ovations from the crowd. With so many independent voters in New Hampshire, endorsements like former Governor King’s really demonstrate how thoroughly Barack is committed to uniting America and working across party lines to rebuild our nation.
While Barack Obama is building a diverse coalition of Democrats, Independents and even Republicans here in the Granite State, he needs your help. There are now less than 40 days to go before election day and every day counts. Senator Obama needs you to come to our offices and help us make phone calls, knock on doors, and spread Barack’s message of change. We need change now more than ever and only you can make it happen! Find your Local Field Office to get more involved in your neighborhood. Or you can talk to your neighbors with Neighbor to Neighbor. If you get more involved and bring people in this historic movement with you, we can all celebrate the night of November 4th!
Last night, over a hundred New Hampshire residents gathered at our Manchester Campaign For Change office to watch the first of three presidential debates between Senator Obama and Senator McCain. The Manchester office debate watch party was one of 80 debate watch parties statewide. From Berlin down to Nashua and from the Upper Valley over to the Seacoast, Granite Staters gathered to watch the two candidates debate the economy and foreign policy.
We were lucky to have a special guest in our Manchester office - Former Republican John Hutson, a co-chair of Former McCain Supporters for Obama, a member of New Hampshire Veterans for Obama, and currently the Dean and President of the Franklin Pierce Law Center. Hutson, who also spoke at the Democrat National Convention in Denver said:
McCain lays claim to foreign policy expertise but he was wrong on Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq and Obama has been right on Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. McCain can talk the talk but Obama has walked the walked.
Last night, Senator Obama demonstrated to the nation his readiness to be Commander in Chief and his ability to handle the current economic crisis. Now he needs your help to change Washington and bring a new hope to politics. He needs your help.
If you didn't make it to a debate watch party near you, stop by your Local Field Office sometime this week to help us contact undecided voters and convince them Senator Obama is the president we need for the change we need!
